SEN Tutor / Qualified Teacher – Southend-on-Sea Autism, ADHD & Complex Needs £25.00–£35.00 per hour PAYE + Paid Planning & Preparation Time Equivalent to approximately £30.00–£42.00 per hour Flexible Part-Time & Full-Time Opportunities | 1:1 Tuition New Chapter Tuition is recruiting experienced Tutors and Qualified Teachers to provide personalised 1:1 tuition and educational support for children and young people aged 5–25 across Southend-on-Sea and surrounding areas. This rewarding role offers the opportunity to work closely with individual learners, helping them develop communication, confidence, engagement, independence, and educational outcomes through highly personalised support. Many learners require support due to Autism (ASC), ADHD, communication differences, sensory processing needs, EHCP-linked needs, complex learning needs, anxiety, or other barriers to education. We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with experience supporting learners with Autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, sensory differences, and complex SEND needs. The Role As a SEN Tutor, you will deliver tailored 1:1 support designed around each learner's individual needs, interests, communication style, and educational outcomes. You will be responsible for creating positive learning experiences that promote engagement, confidence, independence, and progress. Key Responsibilities • Deliver personalised 1:1 tuition and educational support sessions, • Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs, communication styles, and learning profiles, • Support learners to achieve academic, social, communication, and personal development targets, • Develop positive and trusting relationships with learners and families, • Use a range of strategies to support engagement, emotional regulation, and participation, • Deliver English and Maths support where appropriate to the learner's ability and outcomes, • Complete session reports and progress updates following each session, • Monitor learner progress and contribute towards agreed targets and outcomes, • Work collaboratively with families, schools, Local Authorities, and other professionals, • Maintain accurate records and follow safeguarding procedures at all times Learners May Present With • Autism (ASC), • ADHD, • Complex learning needs, • Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), • Sensory processing differences, • SEMH needs Desirable Experience Experience supporting learners with complex SEND needs is highly desirable, including the use of: • PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), • Makaton, • Now and Next boards, • Visual timetables, • Sensory regulation tools and strategies, • AAC and alternative communication approaches, • Autism-specific support strategies, • Relationship-led and trauma-informed practice Where Tuition Takes Place • Learners' homes, • Libraries, • Community venues What We're Looking For Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) and/or substantial tutoring experience Experience supporting children and young people with Autism, ADHD, and/or complex SEND needs Experience working with EHCP-linked outcomes and personalised learning approaches Strong communication and relationship-building skills A patient, flexible, and learner-centred approach Enhanced DBS (Update Service preferred) or willingness to obtain one Right to work in the UK What We Offer £25.00–£35.00 per hour PAYE Paid Planning & Preparation Time Equivalent earning potential of approximately £30.00–£42.00 per hour Flexible working opportunities Long-term learner placements available Ongoing CPD and specialist SEND training Dedicated safeguarding and tutor support Opportunities to make a genuine difference to young people's lives Safeguarding New Chapter Tuition is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
