A Lifeguards job can't be underestimated, and neither can the responsibility that comes with this vital lifeguarding role if you're calm under pressure, highly responsible and natural with people from all walks of life, this is your chance to develop as a Lifeguard. Lifeguarding can also be a stepping-stone towards a career in the leisure industry. Key Responsibilities include: Help our visitors stay safe and healthy when using our brilliant wet facilities Do everything you can to create a friendly, relaxed and professional environment Make sure everyone who arrives at our centres enjoys a warm welcome and efficient service Be attentive and alert at all times Pay close attention to safety and respond to any incidents straight away Qualified lifeguards carry out pool testing, and other health and safety checks, and supervise the pool in accordance with RLSS standards and site operation procedures Experience and Qualifications Required National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (Royal Life Saving Society) or equivalent. Excellent communication skills Experience delivering first class customer service Be willing to work variable hours, including evenings and weekends. Don't have an NPLQ Qualification? We are running our next NPLQ course on Monday 16th February to Friday 20th February 2026 at Hanworth Leisure Centre Following the Royal Life Saving Society UK's (RLSS UK) programme, we will provide you with all the skills and knowledge you will need to become a certified Lifeguard. At the end of the course, you will swim away with National Pool Lifeguard Qualification. The NPLQ covers all elements of Pool Rescue Techniques, Lifeguarding Theory, First Aid and CPR. The course is physically demanding and will include swimming to set times, lifting casualties and diving to the deepest part of the swimming pool. Training and assessment for the NPLQ are in three sections, and candidates must successfully pass all to attain the qualification. Lifeguard Course Prerequisites Every candidate attending a National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) course must be 16-years-old or above at the time of taking the NPLQ final assessment and be able to: Jump/dive into deep water Swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water Tread water for 30 seconds Surface dive to the floor of the pool Climb out unaided without ladder/steps and where the pool design permits How much does the qualification cost? Our NPLQ’s cost £270 including assessment fees. Depending on the needs of the business we may be able to fund your training*. *A minimum commitment set hours per week is required, with a learning agreement in place Due to the needs of the business and the department, we may interview suitable candidates before the closing date.
