Technical Manager – Critical Services | Docklands - OTE £95,000 - £100,000 Salary: c£75,000-£80,000 + Car Allowance + Paid Overtime Benefits: Private Medical, Pension, 33 Days Holiday We are recruiting for a Technical Manager to join a leading global provider of integrated facilities and real estate services, supporting a critical data center campus in Docklands. This is a pivotal role within the technical team, responsible for ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of both critical and non-critical engineering systems. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, drive best practice, and play a key role in maintaining 100% uptime across the site. Role Overview As Technical Manager, you will act as a senior technical authority on site, with responsibility for the performance, integrity, and compliance of all engineering infrastructure. You will work closely with senior technical leadership and act as a key escalation point for complex technical issues. A significant part of the role will involve developing and mentoring engineers, ensuring that all personnel are trained, authorised, and operating to the highest possible standards within a critical environment. You will also take ownership of technical governance, ensuring all procedures, documentation, and safety systems are robust, up to date, and aligned with both statutory and client requirements. Key Responsibilities • Provide technical leadership and support to the on-site engineering team, • Act as a primary escalation point for incidents and technical issues, both in and out of hours, • Ensure all critical systems (HV/LV, UPS, standby power, HVAC/cooling) are operated and maintained in line with best practice, • Review and approve technical documentation including RAMS, switching schedules, and SOPs, • Manage and oversee the permit-to-work system and ensure full compliance with health & safety procedures, • Support and lead technical audits, ensuring full compliance with statutory and client requirements, • Maintain accurate and auditable engineering records and documentation systems, • Lead incident investigations, producing detailed reports and implementing corrective actions, • Plan and oversee statutory maintenance and compliance activities, • Support the development and delivery of site-specific training programmes, • Mentor, coach, and technically sign off engineers, supporting their progression and competency development, • Contribute to continuous improvement, driving high standards in safety, quality, and operational performance, • Support the development of engineering processes, procedures, and emergency response plans, • Work closely with client stakeholders, attending meetings and providing technical guidance where required Authorised Person / Technical Governance • Work towards (or operate as) Senior Authorised Person (SAP) for HV/LV systems and confined spaces, • Support the training, assessment, and appointment of Authorised Persons across the site, • Ensure all switching operations and high-risk activities are properly planned, reviewed, and executed, • Maintain and audit site technical libraries including SOPs and switching procedures Candidate Requirements • Qualified Electrician (Apprenticeship, City & Guilds, or HND), • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations – essential, • Proven experience within a data center or critical environment, • Strong operational knowledge of:, • HV/LV electrical systems, • UPS and standby power systems, • Critical cooling / HVAC infrastructure, • Previous experience in a technical leadership or management role, • Experience operating within strict compliance and safety frameworks, • Strong understanding of permit-to-work systems and risk management, • Confident decision-maker, able to perform in high-pressure environments, • Excellent communication skills, both with internal teams and client stakeholders, • Experience in training, mentoring, and developing engineering teams Desirable: • HV Authorised Person (or working toward SAP level), • IOSH or equivalent health & safety qualification, • BMS / controls experience, • Water hygiene (L8) knowledge, • Experience with system commissioning, integration, and handover Why Apply?
