This is a senior clinical post, with four key elements to the role - Specialist level clinical practice, Professional/Clinical leadership, Education, training and development & Practice and service development, research and evaluation. They will provide expert practice in their field of imaging, including image reporting working closely with the Lead Consultant Radiographer, lead CT Radiologist, Head of Service and CT modality. They will exercise a high degree of professional and personal autonomy as clinical specialist advanced practitioner, demonstrating advanced clinical competence, complex decision making and a MSc level knowledge base across the four pillars of advanced practice. They will act as a CT subject-matter expert within an agreed scope of practice and governance framework. The post contributes specialist expertise and service leadership at senior advanced practitioner level (clinical specialist). Accountability for strategic professional leadership, organisation-wide consultancy and consultant-level impact remains with the Lead Consultant Diagnostic Radiographer and relevant medical, operational and professional leads. Progression to consultant practitioner level would require a separately defined role demonstrating sustained impact across pathway, organisational and system boundaries. The CSS will be the point of contact within radiology to support training and service delivery. There will be an expectation to maintain/deliver CT reporting sessions minimum 4 PA's per week 2-4PA's clinical scanning and min 2 PAs of non-clinical time for outcomes to be reviewed, second opinions to be provided and additional imaging to be requested and appointed should it be required. This role is primarily a very senior radiographer clinical post with specialist skills, knowledge and leadership. This role will undertake operational leadership of specific pathways and clinical management tasks as well as assessing and treating a specialist workload of patients. This role is responsible for managing staff, resources and activity and provides specialist advice as required. This role will be expected to assess, analyse and interpret complex situations including clinical, staff and operational issues. In unpredictable situations this role is responsible for making decisions to ensure continued service provision, in collaboration with the Radiology and CT Operational Leads and Lead Consultant Radiographer. This role will provide expert advice, tuition, governance of the CT service (in line with national guidelines) and service improvement in the specific specialist field of practice. Provide line management for designated CT advanced practitioners in accordance with the approved organisational structure, including appraisal, objective setting, wellbeing support, capability and performance processes, and contribution to job planning. Clinical supervision and professional assurance arrangements will be agreed separately where these functions are undertaken by another suitably qualified practitioner. To take a lead clinical role in the CT department, including safety, research/audit etc. A recognised team member who has specialised knowledge of all areas of the relevant modality and is working towards (enrolled) or has achieved a MSc in a relevant area Attendance or speaking on conferences/ study days/ workshops. Be experienced and confident in using highly complex and expensive diagnostic equipment combining safe operating limits and image quality with patient care. Participate in regular CPD, keeping documentary evidence of attainments. Communicate advances in techniques and applications to all relevant personnel. Provide & develop relevant education and training to radiographic and non-radiographic staff both internally and external to the trust Work to promote and develop the relevant service at both a local and a national level. Ensure that all relevant medical, radiographic and nursing personnel are informed of advances in techniques and applications so that they have an up-to-date knowledge of developments in this speciality. As appropriate, become involved with HEI’s/ education and training of CT, radiography and multidisciplinary professions. Act as a role model to all other staff, promoting advanced practice and providing specialist assistance to advanced practitioners.
