Facilities & Maintenance Manager About Aldenham Estate The Aldenham Estate is on the Hertfordshire-London border. The Estate is a family run business with a long and distinguished history. It was until recently largely a farming estate but has now diversified into a varied business portfolio with ambitious future growth plans. Key assets include Elstree Aerodrome, commercial and residential properties, and renewable energy schemes, with land and green spaces migrating from traditional agriculture into environmental and leisure uses, such as glamping, outdoor events and venue hire, and biodiversity net gain initiatives. The Role We are seeking a capable and hands-on Facilities & Maintenance Manager to support the ongoing upkeep, safety, and efficient operations across all our sites. This is a varied and practical role suited to someone who enjoys maintenance work and problem-solving across a broad range of property. The nature of the role will be dynamic through reacting to issues as they arise. The successful candidate will be proactive, reliable, and highly adaptable, with strong maintenance and repair skills and the confidence to identify issues before they become problems. The role requires someone who can balance practical day-to-day maintenance responsibilities with contractor coordination, compliance awareness, and general estate support. You will be working within the Property team which manages all the Estate’s premises and land assets and provides operational support to the airfield and leisure business lines. Terms and conditions This is a full-time role or potentially a 4 day a week equivalent role (subject to approval). Normal working hours are 9am to 5pm weekdays with the occasional need for flexible working hours during a weekend or out of hours. Compensation is based on a full-time role of between £32,000 to £38,000 pa (depending on experience) with additional benefits of private health insurance, employer pension contributions, and a free glamping stay. Annual leave is based on a full-time allowance of 25 days plus bank holidays per calendar year. Job Purpose: Work with the Property Team to ensure a well-maintained, safe, compliant, and efficient Estate. Proactively anticipate and address repair and maintenance issues to minimise operational disruption, downtime, and associated costs. Identify opportunities to optimise resources and enhance the efficient management of assets across the Estate, airfield, and glamping facilities. Reporting Line: Property Manager. Working Relationships: All members of theEstate Property Team. Airfield ground crew. Glamping Team. Suppliers. Tenants. Main Tasks and Responsibilities Property Maintenance & Repairs: Carry out general maintenance and minor repair works across the Estate. Diagnose and resolve day-to-day non-specialist maintenance issues relating to: • Plumbing, • Heating systems, • Lighting and electrical issues, • Doors, gates, locks, and access routes, • Fencing and external structures, • Gutters and drainage systems, • Painting and general upkeep, • Monitor the condition of buildings, infrastructure, and outdoor areas to ensure high operational standards Grounds & Estate Maintenance: Assist with the upkeep of grounds and external areas across all Estate sites. Operate and maintain small plant and maintenance equipment. Undertake tasks such as: • Strimming and mowing, • Drain and ditch clearance, • Basic landscaping and vegetation management, • General site tidiness and waste management Contractor & Vendor Coordination: Coordinate and supervise external contractors, including electricians, cleaners, maintenance engineers, and specialist service providers. Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the required standard. Health, Safety & Compliance: Support the Estate’s commitment to health, safety, and compliance. Assist with operational risk assessments and routine safety inspections. Ensure buildings, land, and facilities remain safe and compliant for tenants, visitors, and staff. Security & Site Operations: Support site security arrangements, including access control, alarms, and surveillance systems. Assist with tenant-related utilities management, including meter readings for water and electricity. Seasonal & Operational Support: Assist with the seasonal setup and breakdown of the Estate’s glamping operations. Provide general and reactive operational support across the Estate’s business lines both in response to seasonal demands and as business needs evolve. Criteria Essential requirements: Valid UK driving licence. Own vehicle and ability to travel between Estate sites. Live locally to the Estate. GCSE Maths and English. Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel. Minimum 3 years’ experience in a related maintenance, facilities, estate, or property role. Desirable Skills & Qualifications: IOSH or other Health & Safety qualification. Experience operating plant machinery. Chainsaw certification. Carpentry, plumbing, decorating, or other trade skills. Experience working on estates, farms, commercial property, or mixed-use sites. Behaviours: Have excellent practical maintenance and handyman skills. Be confident carrying out minor repairs independently. Be organised, self-motivated, and able to prioritise workloads. Have good interpersonal skills and communicate effectively with tenants, contractors, and colleagues. Be comfortable working both independently and as part of a small team.
