We are currently looking to recruit a Locum Consultant Paediatrician at Epsom General Hospital, Epsom, Surrey, to help deliver our service in the north of Surrey. The post is a fixed term contract to cover maternity leave. The post will be based at Epsom General Hospital. While the main base for this post will be Epsom Hospital, the post holder may be required to work at other sites as required. Epsom Hospital has an integrated paediatric service with acute and community paediatrics on the same site. The successful applicant will take part in the acute paediatric service, including consultant of the week attending on the wards, and taking part in the on‑call rota. The post holder will deliver general & community paediatric clinics. The successful applicant will play a crucial role in ensuring the team continues to deliver a high quality paediatric service. As an organisation we are committed to develop our services in a collaborative manner with the local authorities, in ways that best suit the needs of our patients. The post holder will join a team of 16 Paediatric Consultants and 1 Associate Specialist. There are also 9 middle grade and 9 junior doctors on the paediatric rotas covering ED, the inpatient ward, the day‑case ward and SCBU, in addition to Clinical Nurse Specialists for Epilepsy, Asthma, Allergy, Oncology and Diabetes Routine educational activities include weekly junior doctor teaching programme in addition to Quality meetings, Child Protection Peer review and Mortality & Morbidity meetings run as part of the monthly programme. Key Duties and Responsibilities: The principal duty of this post is to provide a comprehensive clinical service to patients. 1. To, at all times, comply with the GMC’s guidance on ‘Good Medical Practice’ as amended or substituted from time to time., 2. To ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times., 3. To undertake duties as defined within the attached job plan in so far as practicable and in agreement with your Clinical Director., 4. To be responsible and managerially accountable for the reasonable and effective use of Trust resources that you use and influence, and professionally accountable to the Medical Director., 5. On commencement to ensure personal attendance at the Trust’s corporate Induction (or arranged Consultant Induction)., 6. To participate in the Trust’s Statutory & Mandatory training programme., 7. To be responsible for the clinical management of out‑patients under your care., 8. The principal duty of this post is to provide a comprehensive clinical service to patients. • Hold a medical qualification or qualification registered with the GMC, • Entry onto the Specialist Register for GMC in paediatrics or be within six months of obtaining CCT, • MRCPCH or equivalent, • Level 3 child protection, • APLS / NLS, • Qualified in ADOS or similar ASD assessment tool, • Be able to demonstrate a high standard of clinical skill and expertise in providing assessment and support in a variety of neurodevelopmental conditions., • Be able to demonstrate a high standard of clinical skill and expertise in acute and general paediatrics., • Audit/Research, • Supervision of post graduate trainees, • Personal time management skills, • Clinical Governance, • Ability to organise out-patient waiting lists, • Familiarity within issues of service organisation and development, • Has attended a recognised management training event, • Experience of teaching undergraduate and postgraduate trainees, • Ability to teach clinical skills, • Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates/post graduates, • Experience of supervising junior doctors, • Experience of teaching lay groups and other staff groups, • Ability to contribute to change management, • Ability to apply research findings to clinical problems, • Ability to critically review research, • Publications in peer review journals, • Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfil the job requirements.
