Mechanical Design Engineer Location: West Yorkshire Role Overview A leading bespoke lighting manufacturer is seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in West Yorkshire. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, developing, and optimising custom lighting products, transforming creative concepts into practical, manufacturable solutions. This is a hands-on engineering role requiring both technical skill and attention to detail. Key Responsibilities • Develop mechanical designs for bespoke lighting systems from concept through to production, • Prepare and interpret technical drawings, CAD models, and schematics, • Collaborate with electrical engineers and workshop teams to ensure designs are manufacturable, • Support small-scale prototyping, testing, and design refinement, • Specify materials, components, and manufacturing processes, • Conduct mechanical calculations, tolerance analysis, and stress assessments where required, • Provide technical guidance to production teams, including assembly instructions and quality standards, • Maintain accurate documentation of design changes, test results, and product specificationsEssential Skills & Experience, • HNC, HND, or degree in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD), • Strong mechanical design experience, including sheet metal, fabrication, and assembly considerations, • Ability to read and produce detailed engineering drawings, • Understanding of manufacturing processes and materials, • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills, • Effective communication skills and a collaborative approachDesirable Skills, • Experience in lighting, architectural, or bespoke product design, • Knowledge of low-voltage systems and basic electrical considerations for mechanical components, • Experience with small-scale prototyping and workshop fabrication, • Familiarity with quality standards and product testingWhy This Role?, • Opportunity to work on innovative, bespoke lighting projects, • Be part of a skilled and collaborative team, • Chance to see designs progress from concept to fully realised products
