Main Duties As a Land Surveyor, you’ll play a key part in delivering high-quality surveys across a diverse range of environments — including aviation, rail, highways, land development, buildings, and water. Reporting directly to the Office Principal Surveyor, you’ll work on exciting projects both in the UK and overseas. You can be based in our Manchester, Wakefield, Sunderland or Leeds offices, and will have full IT support for remote and home working when required. We’re looking for someone who’s self-motivated, organised, and able to deliver projects on time, on budget, and to the highest standards — often with minimal supervision. Flexibility is important. You’ll need to regularly travel to sites across the UK, with the possibility of occasional overseas assignments, and be willing to work some night and weekend shifts when needed. You will be needing to use your own vehicle for this role too, but expenses will be paid. What You’ll Need • Full UK driving licence and willingness to undertake regular drug and alcohol screening, • CSCS accreditation (required), • Network Rail PTS accreditation (desirable, but not essential), • Previous experience post-graduate in a land surveying role, • Full UK right to work as we are not able to sponsor for this role as we have no certificates Technical Skills You’ll be confident using: • Leica Total Stations, digital levels, GNSS receivers, and HD laser scanners, • LSS, SCC, Cyclone, StarNET, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office 365 Experience maintaining and operating automated monitoring systems would be an advantage — but if not, full training will be provided. Qualifications • Degree or HND in Land Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline., • Full UK driving licence., • Right to work in the UK., • CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme)., • Network Rail PTS accreditation Experience • Credible amount of post study experience with AutoCAD or similar CAD software., • Ability to produce accurate topographical, boundary and as-built surveys., • Good understanding of coordinate systems, datum, and data management, • Proficient in use of total stations, GNSS/GPS surveying equipment, and digital levels., • Ability to produce accurate topographical, boundary and as-built surveys., • Experience using Trimble Business Center, Leica Infinity, or similar processing software., • Good understanding of coordinate systems, datum, and data management., • Knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g. Land Registration Act, CDM Regulations)., • Understanding of sustainable surveying technologies and digital twins. A freelance opportunity inside IR35 exists for a Sub Agent, who has progressed through the ranks from Site Engineer to Section Engineer to Sub Agent, on major civil engineering infrastructure projects for a tier one or principal Contractor. Your proven delivery experience on heavy reinforced concrete structures like viaducts/bridges etc and earthworks fill, would be advantageous. Your duties will include - Oversee and guide Section, Site and Assistant Engineers to ensure effective engineering control and the proper documentation of activities. Foster positive relationships with stakeholder and joint venture partners as well as the supply chain. Encourage a cost-conscious mindset by efficiently utilizing company resources. Assist the Agent in managing the cost system, creating schedules, and preparing Quality Files (QF). Collaborate with commercial staff to ensure timely and accurate preparation of records for measurement and payment purposes. Promote the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technologies to meet project BIM Execution Plan (BEP) requirements. Aid the Agent in procuring necessary materials, sub-contracts, and equipment in a timely manner. Regularly review the performance, development, and training needs of subordinate staff with the Agent, addressing underperformance or potential resignations. Provide the Agent with insights into potential commercial or contractual liabilities.
