Casual Programme Worker Location: Our programmes operate nationally, and we welcome applications from across the UK. However, candidates based in Newcastle are particularly encouraged to apply. Hours: Engaged on a sessional basis aligned with service needs. Casual hours will vary depending on the programme. Sessional work is available nationally, in both school holidays and term time. Some opportunities include residential overnight stays. Salary: £122 day (8 hour day) or £15.25 per hour plus 14.54% holiday pay. Reasonable travel expenses can be claimed in line with EDT's policies. EDT is an educational charity established over 40 years ago and we are going through an exciting period of transformation. We are looking for a motivated and creative person to join our dynamic team and work with our partners and volunteers to create and deliver our projects and experiences to young people interested in STEM and future (META) skills. Job Purpose: We deliver a wide range of programmes that support our vision and mission to inspire and empower young people into positive futures through STEM education. We are seeking enthusiastic Casual Programme Workers to deliver STEM activities and to act in loco parentis on our courses, providing safeguarding, pastoral care, and leadership for groups of young people. You will play a key role in creating a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment, representing EDT professionally and motivating students to participate fully and gain maximum benefit from our programmes. Key Responsibilities: • Deliver large‑scale, hands‑on, virtual or face‑to‑face STEM programmes and events to a high standard. Facilitate workshops using pre‑prepared content, ensuring delivery is dynamic and engaging. Actively engage students in activities, encouraging participation and supporting learning outcomes. Act as the main point of contact for safeguarding and pastoral care, following EDT safeguarding procedures. Act in loco parentis for students, offering guidance, reassurance, and behaviour support when required. Conduct daily headcounts, manage sign‑in and sign‑out processes, and ensure students are accounted for at all times. Identify dietary, medical, or additional needs and ensure appropriate support or adjustments during the programme. Liaise with EDT staff regarding kit, resources, and course logistics. Work collaboratively with host organisations and coordinators to manage schedules, venues, and site visits. Support dissemination of essential programme information (timetables, security requirements, venue details). Maintain positive and professional relationships with schools, teachers, hosts and industry mentors. Represent EDT professionally to students, parents, hosts and partners. Report non‑attendance or student concerns promptly to EDT. Take and submit photos in line with permissions and EDT requirements. Arrange and support processes such as feedback collection, certificate and badge distribution. Submit post‑programme supervisor feedback within required timeframes, including observations on academic content, logistics, and any incidents. Ensure confidential information is securely disposed of and EDT equipment is returned Competencies And Attributes • Professional, proactive, and committed to high‑quality delivery. Organised, efficient and capable of managing workload and deadlines effectively. Experience working with young people, the third sector and/or the youth/STEM sector is desirable. Able to act as a positive and credible ambassador for EDT. Special Conditions: • The successful candidate will be required to fulfil an enhanced DBS/PVG check. Ability to travel and potentially stay overnight is highly desirable. A full clean driving licence is required Access to a vehicle is required Travel and other relevant expenses are covered in line with EDT policies. * Work is sessional, often aligned with school holidays, and may include residential programmes.
