They design, build, own and operate on-site energy and efficiency solutions within live manufacturing environments.They take a anti-constitutional, data-driven approach-assessing each site individually and integrating technologies such as CHP, solar PV, heat pumps and wider efficiency upgrades to deliver the strongest commercial outcomes. The Role We are recruiting a Lead EC&I Engineer to support the development, delivery and commissioning of control systems across a diverse portfolio of industrial energy projects.These projects combine technologies such as CHP, heat recovery, heat pumps and process integration, all delivered within live manufacturing environments. Electrical control systems and instrumentation are central to ensuring safe, reliable and efficient operation.The role spans the full project lifecycle-from early development through commissioning and into operational support. Responsibilities include reviewing designs from external engineering partners, contributing to control philosophies and Functional Design Specifications (FDS), and providing technical input during installation and commissioning.You will work closely with internal engineering and project delivery teams, as well as external partners, ensuring systems are technically robust, buildable and aligned with operational and commercial requirements. This position suits a practical engineer who enjoys variety-design review, hands-on commissioning support, and collaborative problem-solving across real-world industrial environments.Key Responsibilities • Contribute to EC&I specifications, control philosophies and Functional Design Specifications (FDS)., • Review electrical, control and instrumentation designs from external consultants., • Support tender documentation and technical scopes for EC&I systems., • Advise on instrumentation selection, control strategies and data capture requirements., • Translate operational requirements into clear technical control strategies., • Provide EC&I technical input during commissioning and early operation., • Support system testing, troubleshooting and validation of control logic., • Work with internal engineering, project delivery and digital/monitoring teams to ensure seamless system integration., • Support supplier and contractor evaluation from a technical perspective., • Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs and technical workshops., • Attend client meetings to provide technical input throughout project phases., • Provide postcommissurotomy technical support including troubleshooting and optimisation., • Support maintenance strategy development, spares planning and system redundancy., • Identify opportunities for improved data capture and performance monitoring., • Ensure EC&I systems comply with relevant UK standards and industry best practice., • Background in electrical, control systems or instrumentation engineering., • Experience with industrial control systems, instrumentation or automation in manufacturing, process or energy environments., • Experience reviewing or assessing third-party engineering designs., • Understanding of control philosophies and FDS., • Experience supporting commissioning or troubleshooting of industrial systems., • Comfortable working across office and site environments., • Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders., • Experience in energy generation or industrial infrastructure projects., • Exposure to CHP, heat recovery, solar PV, heat pumps or similar systems., • Experience contributing to HAZOP studies or design reviews., • Salary: £70,000-£80,000 (DOE) + car allowance, • Benefits:, • 25 days annual leave + bank holidays, • Private healthcare, • Life assurance (4× salary), • Salary sacrifice pension scheme, • Car allowance, • Training and professional development opportunities
