Mechanical Fitter\n\nLeeds, West Yorkshire\n£38,000 + Paid Overtime + Additional Allowances\nPermanent | 37 Hours | 4-Day Week | Monday to Thursday\n\nThis is not an assembly line role.\n\nIt’s a proper Mechanical Fitter position with a traditional engineering business in Leeds that builds bespoke machinery to a high standard.\n\nWhile many firms are feeling the pinch, this business is thriving, with a confirmed order book stretching out for the next 2-3 years, repeat customers, and continued demand for its quality-built equipment.\n\nIf you are a Mechanical Fitter who takes pride in doing things properly - working to precision, understanding fits and tolerances, and building machinery the right way - this could be an excellent opportunity.\n\nThe Role\n\nYou will be responsible for the end-to-end build of bespoke machinery, working from detailed engineering drawings and specifications, and ensuring every component meets exacting standards.\n\nThis is the kind of role where precision matters. It is not about simply bolting parts together. You will be expected to understand how machinery should fit, function, and perform, with a strong focus on correct clearances, alignment, and build quality.\n\nYou will be fitting a range of mechanical components including shafts, bearings, gears, linkages, pneumatics, and other precision-engineered parts.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\n * Building bespoke machinery to engineering drawings and specifications\n\n * Fitting mechanical components including shafts, bearings, gears, linkages, and pneumatics\n\n * Ensuring precision fits, correct tolerances, and proper clearances throughout the build\n\n * Using precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges\n\n * Inspecting, testing, and verifying components during the assembly and fitting process\n\n * Identifying and resolving fitting or alignment issues during the build\n\n * Maintaining high standards of workmanship and mechanical accuracy\n\n * Working proactively as part of a busy engineering team\n\nWhat They’re Looking For\n\n * Previous experience as a Mechanical Fitter within a machinery, manufacturing, or engineering environment\n\n * Strong mechanical fitting skills - this role is suited to a true fitter, not an assembly technician\n\n * Ability to read, interpret, and work from detailed engineering drawings\n\n * Good understanding of mechanical principles, fits, tolerances, and clearances\n\n * Experience fitting precision mechanical components\n\n * Proficient in the use of precision measuring tools, including vernier calipers, micrometers, depth and height gauges, etc.\n\n * Energetic, proactive, and able to take pride in producing quality work\n\nWhat’s On Offer\n\n * £38,000 salary\n\n * Paid Overtime\n\n * Additional Allowances (see below)\n\n * 4-day working week\n\n * 37-hour week, Monday to Thursday\n\n * Opportunity to join a very busy, well-established traditional engineering business\n\n * A genuine Mechanical Fitter role where skill and craftsmanship are valued\n\nFor those willing to travel for installation or commissioning work at client sites, the company offers additional paid allowances.\n\nIf you’re currently stuck doing repetitive assembly work or only building sub-assemblies, this is a chance to work on full machine builds from start to finish.\n\nApply now or contact SimWest Engineering Recruitment for a confidential chat
