Planning Team Leader - Development Management Contract: 6–9 months (potential to extend or go temp to perm) Location: Hybrid working – office-based 3 days per week Rate: £450–£600 per day An established public sector organisation is seeking an experienced Technical Support Team Leader to lead a high-performing technical support function within Development Management and Planning. This is a senior, hands-on role that blends people leadership, governance, systems ownership, and service improvement. You will be responsible for managing a specialist technical support team, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality, legally compliant, and customer-focused planning service. The role also carries accountability for complex casework, statutory processes, and digital improvement initiatives. Key Responsibilities • Lead and manage a Development Management technical support team, including supervision and performance oversight, • Oversee day-to-day technical support activity, ensuring applications and processes are handled accurately and efficiently, • Personally manage the most complex and sensitive planning matters, including major applications, appeals, enforcement cases, and Tree Preservation Orders, • Ensure the planning support service is legally compliant, customer-focused, and digitally enabled, • Take senior responsibility for statutory reporting, performance indicators, weekly lists, consultations, and decision notices, • Act as lead for FOI and EIR responses, ensuring adherence to legal timescales, • Drive system ownership, workflow improvements, and digital transformation across technical support services About You • Significant experience delivering technical support within Development Management in a local authority environment, • Proven ability to lead and develop teams while maintaining high operational standards, • Strong understanding of planning systems, governance, and statutory requirements, • Confident handling complex and high-profile casework, • Experience with systems such as MasterGov and/or DEF is desirable, • Professional, approachable, and collaborative leadership style This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Planning Technical Support specialist to step into a visible, influential role within a forward-thinking organisation undergoing service improvement and digital transformation.
