Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Permanent Bristol (Flexible Hybrid Working) A leading contractor within the UK water sector is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its established South West team on a permanent basis. With a strong pipeline of secured AMP work and major infrastructure schemes, this organisation continues to play a key role in delivering critical water and wastewater projects across the region. The Role The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will take ownership of mechanical design packages across a range of water and wastewater projects, from initial concept through to detailed design and commissioning support. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will ensure solutions are technically sound, efficient, and practical for delivery on site. The role is based in Bristol, with flexible hybrid working available. Key Responsibilities • Leading mechanical design activities on water and infrastructure projects, • Preparing and reviewing design calculations, specifications, schedules, and technical documentation, • Coordinating with civil, electrical, and process engineering teams, • Supporting construction and delivery teams to ensure buildable, cost-effective solutions, • Liaising with clients, supply chain partners, and internal stakeholders, • Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers, • Ensuring compliance with industry standards, client specifications, and health & safety requirements Candidate Requirements • Demonstrable experience in mechanical design within the water sector or wider infrastructure environment, • Strong understanding of pumping systems, pipework, treatment processes, or associated mechanical plant, • Experience working within a contractor or consultancy setting, • Ability to manage and deliver design packages independently, • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, • Chartered status (or working towards) desirable What’s on Offer • Permanent opportunity with a large, established contractor, • Flexible hybrid working model, • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package, • Secure, long-term workload within AMP frameworks, • Clear progression pathways within a growing regional team For further details or a confidential discussion about the opportunity, please apply or get in touch.
