SUMMARY Extended Day Activity Instructors lead after-school programming for children and teens at New York Edge after-school program sites. This course introduces students to the law and practice of human rights as well as the challenges of enforcing rights in an international environment that has grown increasingly hostile to principles of human dignity and personal freedom. Students review the philosophical foundations of human rights and then examine human rights from two perspectives. First, the legal perspective introduces them to basic principles and rules of international law and the main international organizations and mechanisms designed for promoting and enforcing human rights. Second, they adopt the role of social scientist. We debate evidence on the effectiveness of human rights law and discuss challenges of enforcing rights in an international system in which states are not accountable to a higher authority. Students apply their new knowledge to the problems facing human rights today. Topics may include cultural relativist critiques of human rights as a Western, neo-colonialist institution, challenges from new technologies in state surveillance and autonomous weapons, and existential threats to human populations through climate change and environmental damage. Job Description Who We Are Comp Sci High Alternative (CSH_ALT) is a new charter alternative high school program in the South Bronx, enrolling its founding cohort of 35 students, and launching in August 2026. We are designed for students who are over-age, under-credited, or returning after disrupted schooling and need a different path to success and to graduation. CSH_ALT exists because Comp Sci High’s mission is to give every South Bronx student a path to economic freedom, and traditional high school models do not work for all students in the South Bronx. When students struggle in school, get involved with juvenile justice, or lack stable housing, we see this as a systems failure, not a student failure. That is why we are launching a new alternative program as a small “school within a school.” CSH_ALT is small by design, relationship-driven, and focused on helping students earn a real diploma and transferable skills that support employment, training programs, and long-term economic stability by the age of 25. Assist staff with logistics during emergency drills, transitions, and other school-wide operational moments to help ensure smooth and efficient execution. What We Are Looking For The ideal candidate will have some experience working in a school or youth-serving organization, supporting operational systems related to front office management, logistics, events, and facilities. They will be a flexible, solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to problem-solve in real time and work independently showing initiative in a new and evolving program environment. The candidate should have the following: * Strong organizational skills and attention to detail * Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer-service skills * Ability to manage multiple priorities and remain calm under pressure * Experience with school-based operations, administrative systems, or front office procedures preferred * Comfortable learning new systems and adjusting quickly to changing needs * Commitment to creating efficient, student-centered systems that support a strong school culture * Spanish-speaking preferred Hours Classes run on a flexible schedule. CSH_Alt staff work 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM, with student classes beginning on or around 3:00 PM. We operate on an alternate summer schedule with additional professional days built into the school year. Fridays are off during the school year and balanced with scheduled summer work focused on synergy and integration across the Operations team. Specific calendar details will be shared during the interview process. Pay and Benefits Salary: $65,000 - $80,000.
