Job Description Who We Are: CAMBA is a community of staff, volunteers, clients, donors, neighbors and partners who work together to build an inclusive New York City, where all children and adults have access to the resources and supports, they need to thrive. CAMBA’s Opportunity House (COH) is a 62 bed men’s general population shelter funded by New York City Department of Homeless Services located in downtown Brooklyn. COH offers clients a supportive, structured therapeutic, safe, and drug-free facility. Homeless men are provided with comprehensive services to stabilize their condition in order to successfully transition into to permanent and/or supported housing. Position: Residential Aide Reports To: Supervisor I Location: 59-65 Prince Street, Brooklyn NY 11201 What The Residential Aide Does: The person filling this position is expected, under close supervision, to: (1) Assist clients in the development of daily independent living skills through both individual and group Activities of Daily Living (AOL) sessions, including laundry, meal preparation and clean up, personal hygiene, shopping, and maintaining a schedule of activities; (2) maintain inventory of food and dry goods; and (3) provide clients with an orientation of the facility, services and personal care items, upon arrival; including the following: • Maintain professional relationships with clients and client confidentiality, • Practice Universal Precautions/Standard Protocol & Procedures, • Comply with all Federal, State, City and CAMBA security and privacy polices intended to protect the security and privacy of individually identifiable health information., • Update and inform clients of program changes (i.e., food services changes, laundry assignments,) through individual and group meetings., • Assist with client bed-check every evening, • Conduct dorm inspection to ensure client compliance with facility policies, • Intervene and diffuse inappropriate client interaction, as necessary, • Monitor clients' behavior and report client changes in behavior or personal care to Supervisor and/or appropriate social services staff, • Ensure that clients receive personal care products and laundry products weekly and replace any personal care items as needed., • Sort, count, and bag bed linens, blankets, and towels (may wash, dry and fold)., • Distribute clean bed linens, blankets, pillows, and towels to clients, • Monitor clients' use of laundry facilities, including running new client's belongings through the dryer, • Strip former clients beds and lockers, sort, bag, label and document belongings, carry bags to storage area, and store bags for safekeeping., • Identify, sort, bag, label and document valuable client belongings (i.e., electronics, cash, documents, etc.) and give to Supervisor for storage, • Follow client belongings policy and retrieve personal property of former clients upon their return, • Escort clients, as needed, • Check food deliveries for quality and quantity of items and report any issues to Supervisor, • Prepare kitchen and dining facilities for mealtimes and clean up after each meal, • Heat and serve prepared foods according to Food Standards Policy (i.e., follow menu, set portion sizes, food service hygiene, check temperature of meals, etc.), • Store food according to the Food Storage Policy (i.e., check temperature of refrigerators, rotate food,), • Prepare paper goods, setups and condiments for mealtimes, • Set up coffee and hot water urns before each meal, • May collect garbage in bags and remove to appropriate storage location, • May prepare and serve lunch, • May plan, coordinate and facilitate social and/or peer support events for clients, • Tasks may be modified, expanded and/or assigned over a period Education, Licenses and/or Certifications Required: • Sufficient Education: Ability to comprehend basic reading, writing, and math skills necessary to perform the essential functions of the role., • Upon hire, participate in Department of Health Food Protection 15-hour Course, pass exam and become a certified Food Handler. ORGANIZATIONAL ROLE: • Supervisor: Program Director, • Max Hours: 20 per week, • Days: 5 per week, Monday – Friday 2:00 PM-6:00 PM Participants Supervision • Supervising program participants at all times during program operation, in all locations where the program operates, including off-site trips;, • Assisting in the safe and proper pick-up and delivery of participants from community schools, as assigned by the program director, and as applicable to specific programs.Homework Assistance, • Providing active homework assistance to ensure that all participants are engaged and supported during homework time.Facilitation of Activities, • Planning and implementing engaging academic enrichment and recreation activities that incorporate elements of literacy, STEAM,, youth development, and community service., • Preparing daily lesson plans and unit outlines, and using curricular material provided to facilitate activities., • Initiate guidance and support sessions with appropriate staff if materials are not clear., • Gathering all supplies and preparing the activity space., • Assisting teachers and activity specialists in the facilitation of lessons/activities by actively participating and encouraging participant involvement., • Creating and maintaining a supportive and safe environment by making sure activity spaces are clean and organized., • Following the program schedule and ensuring that all participants follow their schedules, unless told otherwise by the program supervisor.Youth Development, • Utilizing principles of positive youth development through use of behavior management and discipline techniques that foster social, emotional, and cognitive growth, and build self-esteem and responsibility in all participants., • Building positive relationships with and among participants and acting as a role model.Professional Development:, • Participating in meetings and workshops that enhance professional skills, as assigned by Program Director, including a minimum of 15 hours of training per year., • Working with Program Director, staff developers, and (as applicable) educational specialists to develop professional skills., • Applying skills and knowledge acquired in those trainings to improve program quality.Program Procedures and Safety, • Adhering to site-specific memoranda and program staff manual which includes staff and program specific requirements as prescribed by the NYS Child School Aged Child Care (SACC) Programs regulation proactively, making the provision of quality services and the safety and care of all children the primary focus., • Notifying supervisors of any behaviors that impede the provision of quality services and the safety of participants and staff.
