POSITION SUMMARY The Director of Certified Trades leads the daily operations and strategic direction of the district's skilled trades, including HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, and Roofing. This role ensures that school facilities are safe, functional, and well-maintained by overseeing trade teams, managing resources effectively, and partnering closely with school-based operations leaders. The Director balances hands-on operational leadership with long-term planning to support reliable facility performance across the district. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Operational Leadership & Workforce Management • Supervise, coach, and evaluate trade supervisors and licensed technicians across HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Roofing, and other areas as assigned., • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), including work order completion, response times, and preventative maintenance (PM) cycles., • Partner closely with Maintenance & Operations Directors to ensure timely and effective resolution of school-based work orders., • Implement consistent processes and standards across trade areas to improve efficiency, safety, and service quality., • Support workforce planning, including staffing, scheduling, and recruitment for hard-to-fill trade roles., • Promote a culture of accountability, safety, and customer service. Project Management • Oversee small- to mid-scale repair, renovation, and maintenance projects., • Coordinate with internal teams and external contractors to ensure work is completed on time, within scope, and aligned to district standards., • Monitor quality of work and ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations., • Provide input on facility needs and long-term maintenance planning. Budget & Resource Management • Manage the certified trades operating budget and ensure effective use of resources., • Prioritize maintenance needs, including deferred maintenance, based on urgency and impact., • Provide recommendations for major repairs and system replacements (e.g., HVAC, electrical). Emergency Response • Support district response to facility-related emergencies, including system failures and weather-related damage., • Participate in on-call coverage and ensure timely response to urgent issues., • Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to resolve emergencies safely and efficiently. Compliance, Safety & Service Delivery • Ensure all work complies with safety standards, building codes, and regulatory requirements., • Promote safe work practices and support ongoing safety training., • Serve as a key point of contact for schools and departments, addressing escalations and ensuring high-quality service., • Other duties as assigned. MIMIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: • Valid driver's license, • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable safety standards, building codes, and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA), • Relevant trade license in HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, or related field preferred, • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification preferred, • 5-8 years of experience in facilities, maintenance, or skilled trades, including supervisory experience, • Experience managing multiple trade areas or teams preferred, • Relevant trade licensure or certifications a plus SALARY INFORMATION Pay Grade : 137 Salary Range: ___ Work Days: Annual POSITION INFORMATION: FLSA Status: Exempt Employment Category: At-Will Reports to: Executive Director KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES • Strong operational leadership and team management, • Knowledge of building systems and maintenance practices, • Ability to manage budgets and prioritize work effectively, • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, • Ability to respond to urgent situations and shifting priorities, • Effective communication and collaboration skills PHYSICAL ABILITIES AND WORKING CONDITIONS The physical abilities, working conditions and other conditions of employment listed in this document are representative of, but are not intended to provide an exhaustive list of the requirements for positions in this classification.
