Description: Veterinary Technicians at Desert Veterinary Medical Specialists (DVMS) are essential members of our patient care team, working alongside board-certified specialists to deliver exceptional medical care in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. This position involves direct patient handling, advanced diagnostic support, and procedural assistance within the technician’s assigned specialty department. The ideal candidate is compassionate, detail-oriented, and thrives in a team that prioritizes communication, precision, and excellence in specialty veterinary medicine. Key Responsibilities: Patient Care & Technical Support • Utilize safe and compassionate restraint techniques when handling patients during exams, diagnostics, and procedures., • Administer medications and other therapies through various techniques (i.e. oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intravenous)as directed by the attending veterinarian., • Monitor and recover patients under sedation or anesthesia per department protocols., • Be prepared to assist in an emergency situation(i.e. triage, CPR, and anesthetic complications)., • Prepare, breakdown, and clean exam rooms and procedure area., • Ensure proper maintenance and handling of medical equipment., • Follow all sterile techniques and aseptic protocols during procedures., • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and readiness of treatment areas and exam rooms., • Carefully handle medications and supplies, assist with restocking, and notify leadership of inventory needs., • Accurately fulfill prescription requests by filling medications in hospital, electronic submissions, and verbally communicating with outside pharmacies., • Support a smooth daily workflow by proactively identifying and addressing delays or bottlenecks., • Use varying communication methods to communicate clearly and professionally with clients regarding obtaining patient history, relaying discharge instructions, medication administration, and care requirements., • Support doctors in delivering patient updates and answering client questions when appropriate., • Maintain a professional and supportive demeanor during stressful or emotional interactions., • Assist with and perform diagnostics such as blood draws, radiographs, blood pressures, and ECGs., • Be a self-starter and actively engage in problem-solving and problem-identifying., • Be receptive to feedback and able to take direction from veterinarians, technicians, and hospital leadership., • Have strong organization, time management, and attention to detail., • Have strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills., • Have a compassionate attitude toward patients, clients, and coworkers while maintaining professionalism under pressure., • Be a team player willing to learn new techniques and cross-train to provide support in other areas of the hospital., • Be comfortable working with animals of various species and breeds, and in varying states of health and temperament. Education: • Highschool Graduate or equivalent., • Minimum 2 years of experience as a veterinary technician in a veterinary hospital. (Required), • Able to lift at least 40 pounds., • Able to remain active by sitting, walking, and standing for long periods of time., • Able to bend at the waist and knees., • Able to work well under pressure and at high levels of stress., • Exposure to supplies commonly used in a hospital setting such as anesthetic gases and radiation within appropriate OSHA standards., • Capable of working full shifts on-site, including occasional extended hours during emergencies or procedural delays.
