Job Description Ironwood Cancer & Research Centers has beautiful state-of-the-art integrated Cancer and Women's Centers, with locations strategically located throughout the Valley. Each one provides a superior cancer care environment with a full spectrum of cancer related services for patients. Our multi-disciplinary team approach includes surgical oncology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, women's centers, diagnostic imaging services, social service support, nutritionist, integrative services, and genetic counseling. Overview: We are looking for a qualified and experienced Benefits Supervisor to work in our fast-paced Business Office. Supervisor of all financial counselors and insurance verification specialists. Monitors, training, and evaluates staff and duties. Audits all staff functions. Performs job duties and responsibilities in compliance with company policies and procedures. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Supervise and support the insurance verification team, including hiring, training, scheduling, coaching, and performance evaluations., • Set clear performance expectations and monitor productivity standards for accuracy, timeliness, and quality., • Conduct regular staff meetings and provide ongoing education on payer updates and process changes., • Oversee delivery of financial counseling services, ensuring patients receive accurate cost estimates, benefit explanations, and financial guidance., • Support escalated patient financial concerns and resolved complex coverage or billing issues., • Ensure staff follow standardized scripting, education guidelines, and communication expectations., • Educate patients on their insurance benefits, financial responsibility, and available payment options., • Partner with Billing, Scheduling, Clinical, and Revenue Cycle teams to resolve coverage barriers and reduce denials., • Identify trends in financial counseling issues or insurance problems and recommend corrective actions., • Implement improvements in processes, tools, and communication pathways to enhance financial clearance and patient experience., • Maintain accurate patient financial records and comply with HIPAA privacy standards., • Work closely with clinical, scheduling, and revenue cycle teams to support workflow efficiency., • Escalate complicated financial or coverage issues to management as needed., • Audits records for updated patient information (AOB, HIPAA, Insurance, etc.) in the practice management system., • Ensures that guidelines and balances are collected. Oversee the billing of patients, payment plans and patient/guarantor outstanding balances. Following prescribed procedures for collection and resolution of accounts., • Provides mentoring, guidance and back up for staff., • Ability to perform all billing functions and reports as needed., • Maintain appropriate documents, reports and files to comply with all applicable laws and policies., • Complete all daily, weekly and monthly checklists. Weekly reports to management., • Must be able to type and work on a computer., • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner., • Performs other duties as requested by supervisor, administrator, or physicians. Minimum Qualifications • Knowledge of medical terminology., • Knowledge of chemotherapy related drugs, supplies utilized and SNF, LTC and Hospice in relation to insurance benefits., • Knowledge of CPT, ICD-9, HCPCS required., • Knowledge of basic mathematics. Accounting knowledge a must., • Experience in Microsoft Excel and Word., • Ability to use office equipment, computer., • Able to be in a seated position, talk on the phone, repetitive keyboard usage and clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Education and/or Experience: • Expanded education is required. College degree a plus., • 5 years minimum of billing experience., • 3 years of Supervisory experience.
