Job Description Ardurra is seeking a Construction Observation Inspector to join our staff in Arizona! This position is open to both part-time and full-time opportunities. Primary Function In this role, the Construction Inspector will observe and inspect various construction sites. Primary Duties Construction observation and inspection duties include, but are not limited to: • Visit construction sites to monitor activities, • Observing compliance to all safety protocols, • Arranging and reviewing material testing results, • Sampling and testing materials (concrete, AB, AC, etc.) as needed, • Determining and documenting quantity of work completed and materials used, • Assist in preparing pay estimates and change orders for construction contracts, • Participate in project meetings to plan and review project progress, • Investigating complaints, • Confer with contractors and the general public to resolve problems with inspections, • Interpret surveying documents; reading plans, maps or graphic instructions, • Communicate projects status and issues to management in a timely manner, • Ensures compliance with jurisdiction specifications and details, such as:, • Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction;, • Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) standard specifications and details for public works construction, • May coordinate-survey requests and staking, • Monitor trenching for alignment, grade, shoring, manhole locations and compaction. Check pipes, valves, and fire hydrants for proper location, type, and operations, • Monitor conflicts with other utilities, coordinate with management, contractor, and utilities to resolve, • Perform pre-construction plan constructability review, including quantities, utility conflicts, specifications, traffic control, and other pertinent information, • Inspect the full range of public works construction projects, including highways, streets, alleys, water and sewer lines, irrigation facilities, storm drains, and permit construction in the public right-of-way, for compliance with standard details, specifications, and approved plans, • Inspect materials, grades, and other work for compliance with standard and special specifications, details, plans, and standard construction practices, • Inspect trench backfill, sub-grade and aggregate base course for grade, compaction, moisture, and preparation for paving, • Complete daily and monthly progress reports, document accepted quantities, and assist in preparing monthly and final pay estimates, • Compute monthly estimates of work completed and recommend payment for contractors, • Monitor the Quality Assurance Plan and call for testing as required, • Train other construction inspectors as needed, • Inspect traffic control barricade set-ups including street, sidewalk or alley restrictions in accordance with the approved Traffic Control Plan, Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, or other approved guidance, • Review quantities based on plans and specifications prior to construction, • Record all field changes on field redline drawings and/or confirm contractor field redline drawing accuracy, • Assist in preparing record drawings, • Handle property owners complaints and inquiries on construction activities, • Attend and participate in preconstruction meetings with stakeholders, • Effectively use Microsoft Office Programs, Word, Excel, Outlook, • Represents Ardurra in a manner that demonstrates respect for others, integrity, and a high degree of professionalism, • High school diploma or GED equivalency, • 4+ years’ experience in public works construction inspection work or related field (County or State DOT experience highly desirable), • Valid Arizona Driver’s License with acceptable driving record, • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work, • Must be able to obtain the following certifications within 6 months of employment:, • American Concrete Institute (ACI) Field Testing Technician - Grade I, • Arizona Technical Testing Institute (ATTI) Field Technician Certification, • American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS), • Strong work ethic, • Maintain regular and reliable attendance, • Discipline to be on time, all the time, and meet client deliverables, • Strong verbal communication skills enabling efficient work between clients and contractors, • Written communication skills necessary to write and edit routine reports, • America Public Works Association (APWA) Certification, • American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) Certification, • Pavement Marking Technician (PMT), • Guardrail Installer (GI), • International Code Council (ICC) Certification, • International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Certification, • Roadway Lighting, • Signs and Pavement Markings, • Traffic Signals, • Traffic Signal Inspector, • Work Zone Traffic Control Safety, • National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Certification, • Certification for Materials, Asphalt, Concrete, Soils and Highway Construction While Ardurra offers competitive compensation and rich benefits programs, it is our culture that truly sets us apart from our peers.
