The Lappalainen & Sanjana Labs at the New York Genome Center (NYGC) are looking for a motivated individual to work as a Postdoctoral Research Associate within a highly creative and dynamic research team of scientists, computational biologists, bioengineers, and human geneticists. The successful candidate will be jointly mentored by Drs. Tuuli Lappalainen and Neville Sanjana at the intersection of statistical genetics and functional genomics analyses and tech development and have the opportunity to also be affiliated with New York University. About the labs The Sanjana lab works at the intersection of genomics and bioengineering. We are curious about many things and are passionate about what we do. We primarily develop new technologies for hacking and understanding biological systems. We try to learn from nature and to re-purpose what we learn to gain deeper insights into how genomes and neural systems function. In the lab, we modify genomes, perform high-throughput screens, differentiate human neurons from stem cells, watch synapses rewire, find vulnerabilities in cancer cells and have a lot of fun in the process. We aim to have a tangible impact on improving human health by creating new biological tools and fundamental biological discovery. The Lappalainen lab studies functional genetic variation in the human populations by analyzing how genetic variants affect molecular and cellular traits, and how these cellular changes contribute to genetic risk for both common and rare diseases and traits. We analyze these questions both by computational analysis of large genomic, transcriptomic and multi-omic data sets, and by experimental approaches. Our lab includes experts across the field of systems genetics, from statistical genetics and genomics to molecular genomics. About the position We are looking for a postdoctoral scientist eager to understand the impact of human genetic variation on gene expression and phenotypes at the cellular, tissue and physiological levels. This position will be at the intersection of computational and wet-lab work, with co-mentorship by both PIs and membership in both labs. The projects for the postdoctoral scientist combines cutting-edge human genetics and genome technology development, with possible projects in CRISPR and single-cell multi-omics, and its integration with GWAS and eQTL data, including novel data from projects such as Developmental GTEx. Recently, the Sanjana and Lappalainen labs developed STING-seq (Systematic Targeted Inhibition of Noncoding GWAS loci with sequencing): ___. We seek to extend STING-seq to new cell types (including primary cells) and develop next-generation genome editing approaches to answer fundamental questions in human genetics, GWAS and disease biology. In addition, we envision that the postdoctoral scientist will play a major role in developing new projects in a supportive team science environment. The Director of Financial Planning & Analysis leads the New York Genome Center's (NYGC) budgeting and financial analysis function, setting the strategic direction for budgeting, forecasting, and organizational performance management. This is a one-person FP&A function responsible for developing and executing organization-wide financial plans, ensuring alignment with NYGC's strategic goals, and supporting executive leadership in data-driven decision-making. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), this role works closely with department heads, executive leadership, and the Board of Directors to guide financial strategy, resource allocation, and long-term financial sustainability. NYGC is also open to considering highly motivated candidates at the Associate Director level who may not yet have full leadership experience in FP&A but demonstrate strong interest, aptitude, and potential to grow into the role. We are looking for a highly motivated, independent but team-oriented Laboratory Inventory Associate to join our existing and growing inventory management team. This position will support the Senior Manager, Production Lab with inventory management services, as well as other general support outlined, but not limited to, the duties listed below. Key Responsibilities * Accountable for receiving and unpacking consumables, samples and reagents; * Accountable for maintaining an organized and clean stockroom and freezer rooms; * Accountable for ensuring laboratories are stocked and wash racks are refilled; * Establish and maintain good relations with all reagents vendors; * Responsible for placing orders for needed consumables and reagents in a timely manner; * Conduct Purchase Order follow-up while trouble-shooting and expediting, and act as the first point of contact; * Set up and monitor standing orders and shipments, make changes to schedules as needed; * Accountable for ensuring appropriate tracking of material levels and utilization, organizing inventory and monitoring product expiration; * Partner closely with the Lab Management team, to ensure proper stocking of laboratories; * Perform and provide lab management with weekly inventory reporting; * Partner with the Accounting team on monthly inventory reports; * Analyze inventory reports for trends that would affect reorder points and adjust as necessary; * Review inventory activity, and identify and address areas for improvement; * Barcode plastic ware and enter new products into inventory system; * Remove bio-hazardous and chemical waste from the laboratories; * Autoclave and glass washing; * Ship and receive collaborator samples; * Assist Lab with monthly & weekly equipment maintenance, including the fluorescence activated cell sorter; * Manage the fluorescence activated cell sorter as a shared resource and conduct troubleshooting as required; * Manage a real-time chemical inventory system, including a database of safety data sheets; * Preparation of common buffers and stock solutions, as well as agar plates; * Adhere to all EHS regulations. About the Satija Lab Dr. Satija's lab studies the causes and consequences of cellular heterogeneity in complex biological systems. His group is particularly interested in single cell genomics, with active development in both the dry and wet lab. The lab integrates novel statistical and machine learning-based methods with experimental analysis in order to better understand how cells work together to drive biological processes and behaviors. Position Description ___We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Lab Manager to join the Satija Lab. This is a key operational role responsible for ensuring the smooth day-to-day functioning of the laboratory. The Lab Manager will oversee lab administration, equipment, consumables, safety compliance, and onboarding, and will serve as the central point of contact for operational and logistical needs across the team. The successful candidate will work with mammalian and invertebrate based model systems in combination with next generation sequencing and CRISPR technology and will work closely with other scientists in the lab. The Singh lab (___) is looking for a motivated and creative postdoctoral research associate to lead method development and analysis in statistical human genetics, with a focus on brain disorders. The candidate will develop and apply methods to analyze genetic and phenotypic data from clinical collections and population biobanks that include tens to hundreds of thousands of individuals. The candidate will use the depth and diversity of these multimodal datasets to characterize the effects of genetic risk factors for psychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders. Specifically, they will co-analyze common, rare, and structural variants from whole-genome sequence data and detailed phenotypic (questionnaire, clinical, and imaging) data using novel and scalable methods in statistical genetics and machine learning to understand the pathogenesis of brain disorders. We hope to use these insights to identify genes associated with increased risk of particular symptom clusters and pinpoint pathways and processes associated with disease biology. The Singh lab (tjsinghlab.com) is looking for a motivated postbaccalaureate computational research associate to contribute to method development and analysis in statistical genetics. The candidate will apply statistical methods to analyze genetic and phenotypic data from clinical collections and population biobanks that include tens to hundreds of thousands of individuals. The candidate will use the depth and diversity of these multimodal datasets to characterize the effects of genetic risk factors for psychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders. Specifically, they will analyze common, rare, and structural variants from whole-genome sequence data and detailed phenotypic (questionnaire, clinical, and imaging) data using novel and scalable methods in statistical genetics and machine learning to understand the pathogenesis of brain disorders. The New York Genome Center is looking for a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual to join our rapidly expanding CLIA certified Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory. Clinical Genomic Scientist (CGS) will report to the Laboratory Directors and will be responsible for clinical analysis and interpretation of Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) data. Responsibilities include but are not limited to variant curation and interpretation following the most current ACMG and ClinGen guidelines, genotype-phenotype correlation, variant database maintenance and mining, assistance with drafting clinical reports, and assisting Lab Directors with other day-to-day tasks. Clinical Genomic Scientists will work as a part of a team of highly experienced molecular diagnostic laboratory and informatics staff to produce clinical reports from WGS data.
