Job Description Position Legal Services of Central New York, Inc. (LSCNY) will hire a legal secretary for our Syracuse office. We continually search for ways to help people improve their lives and communities. LSCNY handles civil, not criminal, cases. Responsibilities • Prepare, format, and proofread legal documents, including pleadings, motions, briefs, correspondence, and other legal forms., • Manage and organize physical and electronic case files, maintaining meticulous records and ensuring all documentation is readily accessible., • Schedule appointments, meetings, and court hearings., • Communicate professionally with clients, staff, court personnel, opposing counsel, and community partners, demonstrating empathy and respect., • Answer and direct phone calls, take accurate messages and provide general information., • Handle incoming and outgoing mail, faxes, and emails., • Assist with filing and e-filing documents with various courts and administrative agencies., • Maintain strict confidentiality of all client information and case matters., • Provide back-up to front desk staff., • Conduct applicant intake when needed., • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred., • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a legal secretary in a civil litigation or legal aid setting preferred., • Proficiency in Microsoft 365., • Experience with legal practice management software preferred., • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong command of grammar, spelling, and punctuation., • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively., • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment., • Strong interpersonal skills and a professional demeanor, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse populations., • Demonstrated commitment to serving low-income communities., • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion. Starting salary range is $42,250.00 to $60,734.00 depending on experience. Salaries are established by a collective bargaining agreement.
