Job Summary The OSP Laborer will complete the installation of conduit using trenching and pneumatic missile techniques, as well as other outside plant construction tasks. This role requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Responsibilities Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following: • Complete the installation of conduit using trenching and pneumatic missile techniques, ensuring proper placement and secure installation., • Complete outside plant construction activities, including setting handholes, pulling fiber cable, aerial line construction and restoring work sites., • Safely enter manholes to complete audits, cable placement, general maintenance, and other assigned tasks., • Install fiber and Cat5e cables inside homes and businesses., • Safely operate and maintain construction equipment and tools., • Prepare work sites by clearing debris, marking locations, and setting up necessary equipment., • Follow safety regulations and practices to ensure a safe working environment for all team members., • Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used., • A strong commitment to achieving the department's and company's goals and strategic vision., • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with cloud-based and mobile technology., • Ability to quickly learn proprietary software., • A willingness to improve existing processes with new systems., • Excellent organizational skills, time management, initiative, attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-through., • Outstanding communication and customer service skills, with the ability to convey information clearly both verbally and in writing and simplify complex concepts., • The ability to multitask and complete tasks in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision., • Experience working in a high-availability network environment with tight SLAs., • Professional representation of the company always., • A proactive attitude within the team, including mentoring and knowledge sharing., • Flexibility to work various hours, including holidays, weekends, and overnight work as needed., • Effective cross-functional collaboration with team members at all levels, as well as customers and contractors., • A basic understanding of construction practices and a willingness to learn new techniques and equipment operation., • Outdoor working environment with seasonal heat, cold, and other inclement weather conditions., • Driving company assigned vehicle to/from work sites in a safe and responsible manner during adverse weather conditions, heavy/light traffic, or at night., • Work sites include manholes, hand holes, etc. and will involve extensive walking on various types of terrain, working around objects and machinery in construction areas, and may require confined space entry and ability to work in elevated areas., • High school diploma or equivalent is required., • Previous experience in outside plant construction or a related field is required., • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects, excavating with shovels, working in various weather conditions, in confined spaces, and standing for extended periods, and at various hours of the day/night., • Must be available and respond to after hour callouts, work overtime, shift, weekends, and holidays, as required, and remain in service during outages until resolved., • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug screening., • Competitive Salary Commensurate with Experience, • Medical, Dental, and Vision, • Supplemental Benefits - Accident, Critical Illness, Hospital Care, • Life and Disability, • Flexible Spending Accounts, • 401K with Match, • Life Assistance Plan, • Wellness Plan, • Vacation, Personal, Sick, and Holiday Pay, • Ongoing Professional Training & Educational Reimbursement Program, • Team Member Recognition Programs Background Screening: As part of our standard hiring process for new employees, employment with Smart City will be contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening, background check, and motor vehicle check.
