Job Description Full Job Description A leading machinery moving and high-tech handling company serving the San Francisco Bay Area, Northern California, and Western Nevada is seeking an Estimator to support job walks, estimating, project coordination, and customer relations. This family-owned business, now in its fourth generation, provides services including rigging and trucking, warehouse storage, machinery moving, installation, relocation, heavy hauling transportation, turnkey relocation, import/export, crating, and skidding. The company is known for quality work and strong customer relationships. The Estimator will work closely with a senior estimator to learn estimating skills in a fast-paced environment. This role is responsible for estimating, scheduling, budgeting, and supporting customer satisfaction throughout each project. Essential Functions * Partner with and train under a senior estimator to develop estimating skills. * Learn to plan, bid, and oversee projects while following company policies and procedures and meeting deadlines. * Review proposal specifications and drawings, attend pre-estimate meetings, analyze RFP requirements, determine scope of work, and prepare time, cost, and labor estimates. * Review historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity reports, and similar sources to develop unit and man-hour figures. * Interface with customers and perform job walks. * Measure access doors and identify any pinch points that may need to be addressed before a move. * Understand job scope, site logistics, existing conditions, and unforeseen issues. * Lead meetings with project teams, subcontractors, and customers to develop complete scopes and discuss strategy. * Formulate job plans and generate quotes for customers. * Review estimates for accuracy and completeness before formal quotation. * Communicate clearly and concisely in verbal, written, and visual formats. * Oversee bid activities, including change orders and revisions. * Dispatch work with the proper rigging equipment. * Review work orders for customer invoicing. * Develop and maintain productive customer and subcontractor relationships. * Perform regular site visits to ongoing projects to support operations and improve communication and customer experience. * Track awarded contracts, including pricing extra work items, change orders, credits, and procuring materials on major work items. * Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor quotes for scope and qualifications. * Enter estimate data into appropriate software. * Keep the project team informed of organizational changes. * Research and promote continuous improvement in estimating methods. Qualifications * 2 years of estimating experience in millwright services, machinery moving, and/or rigging. * General knowledge of the rigging trade and commercial or industrial projects. * Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. * Knowledge of estimating techniques, engineering disciplines, and sub-trades preferred. * Ability to read and accurately interpret construction documents and plans, including drawings, specifications, contracts, and general conditions. * Strong organization, articulation, analytical thinking, and decision-making skills. * Ability to communicate difficult or sensitive information tactfully. * Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage multiple concurrent projects. * Punctual, dependable, and strong written, verbal, and customer service skills. Physical Requirements * Most work is performed in an office setting, but frequent travel to job sites and client locations is required. * Must be able to read blueprints, schematics, and related documents. * Must be able to perform frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, and twisting to evaluate equipment and entry/exit points.
