Job Summary: The Apprentice HVAC Technician will work under the supervision of experienced HVAC professionals to learn and assist with the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. This entry-level role is designed for individuals looking to develop their HVAC skills and advance their careers within the industry. The apprentice will gain hands-on experience while learning about HVAC system components, safety standards, and best practices. The position provides the opportunity for career growth, mentorship, and the development of technical expertise in residential, commercial, and industrial HVAC systems Duties/ Responsibilities: * Help with the installation of HVAC systems, including mounting and connecting components like furnaces, air conditioners, thermostats, ducts, and refrigerant lines under the supervision of senior technicians * Install basic components such as air filters, vents, or thermostats, while gaining an understanding of the entire system setup * Clean and maintain HVAC systems, including changing filters, cleaning evaporator and condenser coils, and ensuring system components are free from debris * Inspect HVAC systems for signs of wear, damage, or malfunction and report issues to a senior technician * Assist in checking refrigerant levels, monitoring air quality, and maintaining system efficiency during routine service calls * Learn to diagnose common HVAC system problems under the guidance of more experienced technicians * Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and refrigerant issues, assisting with repairs where needed * Follow instructions to perform simple repairs like replacing faulty parts, repairing ductwork, or adjusting thermostats * Follow safety procedures at all times, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensuring that all tools and equipment are used correctly * Ensure compliance with local codes, regulations, and safety standards when performing HVAC tasks * Maintain a safe and organized work environment, keeping tools and workspaces clean and free of hazards * Assist in testing HVAC systems after installation or repair to ensure they are functioning correctly * Learn to measure airflow, pressure, and temperature to confirm that the system is performing to specifications * Participate in on-the-job training and formal education programs to learn technical skills, system designs, and safety standards * Shadow experienced technicians, learning the best practices for system installations, repairs, and troubleshooting * Continuously improve knowledge and skills in HVAC technology, tools, and techniques * Communicate with clients under the guidance of senior technicians, ensuring professional interaction and a positive customer experience * Help explain basic system functions, maintenance tips, and warranty details to customers * Work effectively with other technicians, field supervisors, and support staff to complete jobs on time and ensure high-quality service delivery * Other duties as assigned Education/Certifications/Licenses * Education * High School Diploma or GED * Technical School or Vocational Training is a plus * Certifications * EPA Section 608 Certification or ability to obtain * OSHA 10 or ability to obtain * Licenses * Driver’s License Experience * Some experience working with tools: Familiarity with basic hand and power tools, whether from previous jobs, classes, or personal projects * Basic knowledge of how mechanical or electrical systems work * Previous internship, volunteer, or part-time experience in HVAC, construction, or a related trade Required Skills/Abilities * Basic understanding of mechanical systems and components * Ability to operate and handle basic hand and power tools safely and correctly * Strong interest and ability to learn how various HVAC components work, such as motors, compressors, and electrical systems * Openness to receiving instruction and following directions from senior technicians * Ability to learn quickly on the job, adapting to new tasks, procedures, and tools * Ability to pay attention to small details while performing tasks like connecting wires, handling refrigerant, or measuring airflow * Good physical condition with the ability to lift heavy equipment, climb ladders, crawl in confined spaces, and perform physically demanding work * Manual dexterity for handling tools and components with precision, especially in tight or awkward spaces * Proficiency in basic math skills to measure, calculate loads, and understand temperature or pressure readings * Ability to identify and troubleshoot basic issues with guidance, developing problem-solving skills through hands-on experience * Understanding of workplace safety procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), proper handling of tools, and awareness of electrical and refrigerant safety * Willingness to follow OSHA guidelines and company safety standards, ensuring a safe work environment for self and others * Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with supervisors, team members, and clients * Listening skills to understand and follow instructions from more experienced technicians * Willingness to provide and receive feedback, which is essential for growth and learning * Ability to arrive punctually and maintain a dependable work schedule, especially when assisting on time-sensitive projects * Basic customer service skills to interact with clients in a friendly and respectful manner, especially when on-site * Willingness to answer simple questions and explain basic aspects of HVAC systems with support from senior technicians * Ability to organize tools and materials, ensuring that workspaces remain safe, clean, and efficient * Attention to detail with documentation to record tasks, observations, and instructions accurately when needed Physical Demands/Working Environment * Physical Demands * Light to Medium Work. Exerting up to 11 - 50 pounds occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects * Repetitive motion.
