The Senior CL Psychiatrist working in this facility will lead the team in diagnostic review, treatment planning, and interdisciplinary case conferencing with medical, nursing, and social work for individuals housed in this facility with comorbid mental illness, including direct patient care as well as supervision of other psychiatric providers. The Senior CL Psychiatrist will also consult on the care of medically complex patients in other jail facilities. Experience working in correctional settings is not required, however the ability to work closely and effectively with multiple other disciplines, including security staff, is critical. Approximately 25% of new admissions per year to the NYC jail system will receive care on the mental health service. This service strives to provide safe, holistic and evidence-based therapeutic interventions for the diverse range of mental health issues that face the population, from serious mental illness to the natural struggles that accompany incarceration. The service provides some of the most comprehensive and unique treatment modalities in the country, including specialty housing units for individuals with serious mental illness, a 24-hour on-call psychiatric service, robust creative arts programming, a strong DBT training program, clinics in each of the facilities, substance use treatment, integrated re- entry services, and relationships with multiple training institutions throughout the city. Responsibilities: The Pharmacy Technician performs all technical tasks in the unit dose, carry and out-patient drug distribution systems as well as other related duties of a satellite pharmacy. Records issues of stock on the non pyxis Floor Stock Inventory and Issue Record., • Delivers emergency boxes and other requested items to clinic or infirmary areas as needed., • Prepares weekly pharmacy stock order by utilizing par levels and building usage patterns for review by the pharmacist. Enters order into IDWhere and transmits on both a daily and weekly basis to packaging. Reconciles packing slip or invoice against items received. Notifies building pharmacist and packaging manager of any discrepancies. Puts away orders upon receipt, appropriately rotating stocks as required., • Inspects all drug storage areas (clinic, mini-clinic, urgi-center, infirmary, pharmacy, par level rooms, dental, X-Ray, etc.) for outdated medication, IV solutions and related supplies on a monthly basis., • Sorts, counts, prepares outdated drug manifest and packs up outdated medications for return to Central Medical Supply for submission to a reverse distributor., • Prepares and records the prepackaging of extemporaneous unit dose medication., • Records daily statistics on the RX Daily Stats Activity Report form in the computer. The service strives to provide safe, holistic and evidence-based therapeutic interventions for the diverse range of mental health issues that face the population, from serious mental illness to the natural struggles that accompany incarceration. The service provides some of the most comprehensive and unique treatment modalities in the country, including specialty housing units for individuals with serious mental illness, a 24-hour on-call psychiatric service, robust creative arts programming, clinics in each of the facilities, substance use treatment, medication assisted treatment (MAT), integrated re-entry services that includes alternatives to incarceration, and relationships with multiple training institutions throughout the city. Furthermore, CHS has been engaged in an effort to better identify people with neurodevelopmental/neurocognitive disorders and to utilize psychological testing to connect people to services in the community (e.g., with OPWDD). Responsibilities: Under the supervision of a Senior/Supervising Psychiatrist in the Mental Health Service of CHS, this position requires the provision of high quality, team-based psychiatric services including psychopharmacologic interventions, for individuals incarcerated in the New York City jail system. Each of the facilities in the jail system has unique patient population and environmental characteristics; each psychiatrist will be matched with the population that most closely meets their clinical expertise, desired work location and schedule and the clinical needs of the service. Experience working in correctional settings is not required, however the ability to work closely and effectively with multiple other disciplines, including security staff, is critical. THIS IS A FIELD OPPORTUNITY ESSENTIAL TASKS • Provide counseling, treatment, rehabilitation, case management and support services in the community (homes, shelters, street), as part of a mobile multi-disciplinary team, to mentally ill individuals who have a history of decompensation and relapse as a result of poor follow through with outpatient treatment., • Assume primary clinical management responsibility for 10-15 adults with serious and persistent mental illness, who may also have a co-occurring substance abuse or other disorder, within the context of a 68-person-caseload ACT Team., • Assume lead responsibility within the multi-disciplinary team for integrating family goals and services with the tasks of all team members and for providing family psycho-education individually and in groups., • Assist consumers in attaining or maintaining housing, employment, functional social relationships, and relief from psychiatric symptoms and side effects through medication management support., • Assertive engagement and provision of mental health services in the community where the service population lives – up to 80% of weekly work schedule may involve fieldwork., • Continuous responsibility (24-hour) for people enrolled in the ACT Team caseload., • Provide all services in a culturally relevant and competent manner., • Maintain accurate and up-to-date Case Records, including but not limited to progress notes, service plan and service plan reviews, assessments and contact logs within keeping of all-applicable OMH, Medicaid, and ICL Regulations and Guidelines., • Provide support and psychoeducation to family members, friends and other collateral individuals., • Provide referrals and engagement support for services not directly provided by ACT Team, e.g., medical services, participation in psychosocial clubhouses and self-help groups, vocational training and placement, etc., • Provide accurate and timely reports, within federal, state, and city regulatory and agency confidentiality guidelines, to other providers and agencies, e.g. housing, vocational, criminal justice, child welfare, etc., • Participates in individual and group supervision, treatment team meetings, case conferences, in-service training and other staff development activities as assigned., • Observes all ICL, OMH, and all other applicable rules, procedures or laws regarding the reporting of incidents, including the reporting of alleged child abuse and neglect. Master’s Degree in one of the following disciplines recognized by the New York State Office of Mental Health as qualifying a staff person to be counted as professional clinical staff: Social Work, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Rehabilitation Counseling, Pastoral Counseling, Creative Arts Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation.
