Job Description The Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) Department at the Schwarzman Animal Medical Center (AMC) is hiring a Senior Veterinarian for our ER. The AMC is one of the nation's largest facilities for animal care, research, and education. The state-of-the-art hospital operates 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, with 55,000 patient visits annually. Over 140 veterinarians comprise the professional staff, representing all specialties, and providing a progressive, stimulating, and rewarding working environment. About Emergency & Critical Care at AMC The ECC Department is currently comprised of ten board-certified specialists in ECC, seven internship-trained emergency doctors, nine residents, 35 licensed technicians (several with their VTS in ECC), and 22 assistants. In our open new-renovated ICU, patients are co-managed by ECC and allied services or managed primarily by the ECC team. Our ER is at the hospital's center, open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and has an active caseload of nearly 20,000 visits per year. AMC is the only VETCOT certified, Level one trauma center in the region. The Senior Veterinarian in ER will play a paramount and integral role in the Emergency and Critical Care Department. The clinical responsibilities of our ER doctors include primary case receiving as well as oversight of the interns and ECC residents seeing emergency cases. The overnight rotation for ER doctors includes oversight and monitoring of all pets hospitalized in the ICU and of the interns in the ER. The senior ER doctor schedule varies among daytime, swing, and overnight shifts, during which time you will be working alongside 1-3 senior ER doctors and/or criticalists and 4-6 rotating interns (shift depending). Senior ER doctors share responsibilities in the ER with the boarded criticalists and senior ECC residents. The Senior Veterinarian in ER role is demanding but extremely gratifying as it allows the opportunity for infinite growth. Efficiency, diplomacy, patience, and confidence are essential character traits for our doctors, as are both a desire to teach and to continue to learn. THE OPPORTUNITY The Brooklyn Mental Health Court (BMHC) launched in 2002 as NYC’s first mental health court, serving individuals charged primarily with felony offenses who are living with serious mental illness. The program diverts participants from jail or prison by conducting clinical assessments and then connecting them with long-term treatment in the community, along with rigorous judicial monitoring. The court aims to strengthen the justice system’s ability to identify, assess, and monitor individual participants, to create linkages between the justice and mental health systems, and to improve public safety by ensuring that participants receive high quality community-based services. The Brooklyn Felony ATI Program utilizes a similar model to Brooklyn Mental Health Court, serving individuals facing felony charges who are not otherwise eligible for Mental Health Court or other treatment courts in Brooklyn. The program receives referrals through two pathways: (1) the dedicated Felony ATI court part within Brooklyn Supreme Court, with a dedicated judge and supervising prosecutor; and (2) through other court parts throughout Brooklyn Criminal and Supreme Court. Regardless of the referral pathway, all participants receive individualized assessments, onsite and community-based services, compliance monitoring and judicial monitoring for the life of the case. BMHC is seeking a Social Worker for its Brooklyn Felony Diversion programs. The Social Worker will serve individuals who are mandated to Felony Alternative to Incarceration (Felony ATI) programming through the Brooklyn Supreme Court. Reporting to the Clinical Director, the Social Worker is responsible for conducting psychosocial assessments, linking clients to a range of wrap-around services, providing comprehensive trauma-informed case management, compliance monitoring, and reporting for clients referred to the Brooklyn Mental Health Court and Brooklyn Felony ATI programs. THE OPPORTUNITY Brooklyn Mental Health Court The Brooklyn Mental Health Court launched in 2002 as NYC’s first mental health court, serving individuals charged primarily with felony offenses who are living with serious mental illness. The program diverts participants from jail or prison by conducting clinical assessments and then connecting them with long-term treatment in the community, along with rigorous judicial monitoring. The court aims to strengthen the justice system’s ability to identify, assess, and monitor individual participants, to create linkages between the justice and mental health systems, and to improve public safety by ensuring that participants receive high quality community-based services. Brooklyn Felony ATI Program The Brooklyn Felony ATI Program utilizes a similar model to Brooklyn Mental Health Court, serving individuals facing felony charges who are not otherwise eligible for Mental Health Court or other treatment courts in Brooklyn. Key Responsibilities: • Front Desk & Patient Experience: Greet visitors, physicians, and patients professionally; direct them appropriately and monitor daily flow to keep the practice running efficiently, informing patients of any schedule delays, • Check-In & Intake: Assist patients with medical intake forms, upload insurance information and government-issued ID, and perform patient check-in, • Records & Billing: Update patient demographics, insurance, HIPAA, and financial forms; accurately collect payments and clearly explain financial obligations to patients, • Chart Management: Create and assemble paper and electronic medical record charts, ensuring documents are properly entered and scanned, • Communication: Promptly answer and respond to phone calls and office emails; screen callers professionally, take messages, or direct to appropriate staff, • Office Support: Maintain waiting areas in a neat, tidy condition; provide chaperone duties during patient exams as needed; perform other clerical duties to support provider productivity and office efficiency Qualifications: • Friendly, reliable, and self-motivated, • Organized and detail-oriented, • Computer proficient, • Able to work independently and efficiently, meeting deadlines under pressure
