Position Overview The Certified Recovery Peer Advocate requires someone who is culturally aware and sensitive to the needs of the targeted population, possess excellent computer skills, be able to function as a part of an inter-disciplinary team and have understanding of therapy and group work rooted in evidenced based approaches for intervention and management strategies. Certified Recovery Peer Advocate services are peer-delivered services with a rehabilitation and recovery focus. They are designed to promote skills for coping with and managing behavioral health symptoms while facilitating the utilization of natural resources and the enhancement of recovery-oriented principles (e.g. hope and self-efficacy, and community living skills). The Certified Recovery Peer Advocate uses trauma-informed, non-clinical assistance to achieve long-term recovery from a behavioral health disorder. Under supervision of the Program Director, the requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The provider ensures strengths based, person centered quality of care provided in a culturally and linguistically meaningful therapeutic environment. Job Description Overview Employed by PAGNY for The Division of Correctional Health Services (CHS) of New York City Health + Hospitals (H+H) is responsible for the delivery of medical care, mental health care, and discharge planning in the jail system. Approximately 25% of new admissions per year to the NYC jail system will receive care on the mental health service. This service strives to provide safe, holistic and evidence-based therapeutic interventions for the diverse range of mental health issues that face the population, from serious mental illness to the natural struggles that accompany incarceration. The service provides some of the most comprehensive and unique treatment modalities in the country, including specialty housing units for individuals with serious mental illness, a 24-hour on-call psychiatric service, robust creative arts programming, a strong DBT training program, clinics in each of the facilities, substance use treatment, integrated re- entry services, and relationships with multiple training institutions throughout the city. Summary of Position This is an hourly position reporting to the Director of the Forensic Psychiatric Evaluation Court Clinics (FPECC) in the Division of Correctional Health Services. The Bronx, Brooklyn/Staten Island, Manhattan, and Queens FPECCs are responsible for conducting fitness to proceed evaluations under NYS Criminal Procedure Law Article 730 and pre-sentencing evaluations under NYS Criminal Procedure Law 390 for adult criminal defendants in the NYC criminal justice system. Per Diem Forensic Examiners conduct CPL 730 examinations of criminal defendants together with staff psychologists and psychiatrists, form independent opinions as to the examinees' fitness to proceed, submit timely written reports to the Court, and provide courtroom testimony as and when required. Currently, per diem examiners are only assigned to remote examinations. Approximately 25% of new admissions per year to the NYC jail system will receive care on the mental health service. This service strives to provide safe, holistic and evidence-based therapeutic interventions for the diverse range of mental health issues that face the population, from serious mental illness to the natural struggles that accompany incarceration. The service provides some of the most comprehensive and unique treatment modalities in the country, including specialty housing units for individuals with serious mental illness, a 24-hour on-call psychiatric service, robust creative arts programming, a strong DBT training program, clinics in each of the facilities, substance use treatment, integrated re- entry services, and relationships with multiple training institutions throughout the city. Responsibilities Under supervisor of the Sited Medical Director with latitude for independent judgement and initiative, the Physician Assistant is an integral part of the medical team at his/her facility. This Assistant Program Director (APD) position requires a thorough understanding of relevant service delivery concepts and structures, including strong knowledge and experience with serving clients within mental health systems, and the ability to access and negotiate the full range of services for recipients. Job Summary: Responsible for identifying and recruiting qualified foster parents to provide safe, nurturing, and supportive homes for children and youth in the Enhanced Family Foster Care program. Engages with the community, conducting outreach, and ensuring all prospective foster homes follow NYSOCFS regulations.
