Job Description Preconstruction Manager Location: Manhattan, New York City I’m working with a well regarded New York City general contractor that is looking to hire a Preconstruction Manager into a highly visible role within the business, focused primarily on commercial projects. This position will suit someone who can lead frontend efforts across conceptual estimating, budgeting, cost planning, value engineering, client coordination and GMP development, while working closely with senior leadership, operations and design teams. The company offers the stability, reputation and project flow of an established contractor, while still maintaining an environment where individuals have real visibility, influence and room to grow, without the layers of bureaucracy often found in larger firms. Key Responsibilities • Lead preconstruction efforts from early concept through GMP, • Develop conceptual budgets and detailed cost plans, • Drive value engineering and cost optimization strategies, • Manage subcontractor outreach, bid leveling and scope analysis, • Interface directly with clients, architects and consultants, • Support design development with real-time cost feedback, • Collaborate closely with operations teams to ensure smooth handover, • Present budgets and updates to internal and external stakeholders Experience required • At least 4+ years of experience within a reputable GC or CM environment, ideally in the NYC market, • Exposure to commercial construction projects, with involvement in preconstruction, estimating or cost planning, • Experience contributing to conceptual budgets, GMPs and negotiated work, • Comfortable working with subcontractors, reviewing bids and supporting scope alignment, • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, client-facing environment with increasing levels of responsibility They are looking for someone with strong NYC experience, solid preconstruction instincts, and the ability to operate confidently in both technical and client-facing settings.
