Job DescriptionEstimator, Landscape Construction Senior Estimator - Landscape & Commercial Construction Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to lead estimating efforts for landscape construction and commercial projects. The Senior Estimator will produce accurate, competitive proposals and cost estimates, perform detailed takeoffs from blueprints, evaluate subcontractor bids, and work closely with project managers and sales to secure profitable contracts. This role requires deep experience in landscape construction estimating and commercial estimating, strong analytical skills, and the ability to mentor junior staff. Key Responsibilities • Prepare detailed, accurate cost estimates and bid proposals for landscape construction and commercial projects, including materials, labor, equipment, subcontractors, and contingencies., • Perform takeoffs from plans and blueprints using manual methods and estimating software, ensuring quantities and specifications align with project requirements., • Analyze subcontractor and vendor proposals, solicit competitive bids, and recommend preferred partners based on value and reliability., • Collaborate with sales, project management, design, and operations teams to clarify scope, identify risk, and develop strategies to optimize project profitability., • Conduct site visits and pre-bid meetings to verify conditions, identify potential challenges, and validate assumptions used in estimates., • Develop and maintain standardized estimating templates, cost databases, and unit price catalogs to improve accuracy and efficiency., • Perform bid reviews, margin analyses, and risk assessments to support go/no-go decisions and negotiate terms as needed., • Mentor and train junior estimators, review their work, and provide feedback to raise team capability and consistency., • Stay current on market pricing, labor rates, material availability, and industry best practices to inform estimates and bidding strategies., • Prepare executive-level bid summaries and present findings and recommendations to leadership and clients as required.Qualifications, • Required: Minimum 5-8 years of progressive estimating experience with a strong focus on Landscape Construction and Commercial Estimating., • Proven ability to produce precise takeoffs from blueprints and construction documents and to develop comprehensive commercial estimates., • Strong working knowledge of construction means and methods, estimating techniques, and cost drivers in landscape and commercial construction., • Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or similar) and familiarity with spreadsheets and database tools., • Excellent analytical, math, and organizational skills with acute attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously under deadline pressure., • Effective communication and negotiation skills with experience interacting with clients, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders., • Demonstrated leadership experience, including mentoring junior staff and contributing to process improvements., • Nice to have: Hands-on experience or familiarity with Commercial Construction projects, broader Estimating roles, Horticulture knowledge, Landscape Estimating specialization, and direct experience interpreting Blueprints., • Education: Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, Civil Engineering, or equivalent experience preferred.
