The primary role of the Accounting Specialist is to support the Finance staff in managing day to day financial transactions, budgeting and reporting. Responsibilities: • The Accounting Specialist is responsible for providing accounting support for Hamilton-Madison House’s government contracts, including budgets, financial reporting, preparing vouchers and justifying expenses for drawdowns, • The Accountant will also assist with the monthly close process, financial reporting, collaborate with colleagues of the Finance Department regularly, pitch-in for colleagues as needed, and provide excellent support to staff across the organization., • This role reports to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and requires a high level of accountability and responsibility., • Process HMH bi-weekly payroll and other payroll related duties as assigned by the CFO, • Responsible for recording and processing Accounts Receivable, daily banking transactions, • Assist with updating Accounts Payable, cut checks and issue other payments, as necessary, • Assist with monthly closing of the books and with general entry, • Assist with preparation of financial statements (monthly, quarterly and annual) and supporting schedules, • Assist with the preparation of financial reports for submission to funding sources as needed, • Support financial analysis and compliance with internal policies and procedures consistent with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (“GAAP”)., • This role requires great attention to detail, a strong ability to multi-task and work independently, and the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines., • 2-3 years of relevant work experience, preferably within the finance department of a nonprofit organization, • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, • Excellent financial analysis skills, • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; advanced Excel skills are required, • Highly organized and detail oriented; able to plan, manage and successfully complete multiple concurrent projects with deadlines.
