Job Description Job Title: Maintenance Technician Job Description This position involves working on a relief shift primarily intended to cover absences and vacations. When coverage isn’t needed, you may be assigned to a regular day shift. As a Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for repairing and maintaining machinery and mechanical equipment, including engines, motors, pneumatics, conveyor systems, and production machines. Responsibilities • Maintain and repair all production equipment such as pumps, pasteurizers, homogenizers, atomizers, evaporators, dryers, churns, valves, and baggers., • Maintain and repair all support equipment, including boilers, air compressors, ammonia compressors, thermal storage units, condensers, vacuum pumps, ammonia systems, air conditioning units, sewer meters, conductivity meters, and water meters., • Handle chemicals for support equipment operation, including chemical testing of boiler feed water, condensate, cooling tower water, ice bank chilled water, and plant process water., • Fabricate and manufacture equipment for production needs, including product and process piping, sanitary equipment, steam lines, and pneumatic lines., • Document all schematic and diagram changes to keep plant records current., • Work with minimal supervision in all key areas while following all company Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)., • Install, set up, calibrate, and troubleshoot process instruments, including pH, conductivity, turbidity, sensors, and solenoids., • Mastery knowledge and troubleshooting of various circuits and equipment, including single-phase and three-phase circuits, vacuum pumps, PLC components, and chart recorders., • Proficiently perform precision alignment, including soft foot correction and laser alignment., • Troubleshoot and repair ammonia compressors, condensers, cooling towers, boilers, air compressors, and air handlers., • Ensure all work is done in a timely fashion and properly., • Coach and train teammates, participating in on-the-job training., • Support and enforce SQF/QA, GMP, Safety policies and procedures, and production needs, ensuring food safety and quality., • Perform other duties as assigned., • 6 years of experience with proficiency at a journey level status or equivalent., • Training with emphasis in electronics, instrumentation, refrigeration, electrical, and general mechanical., • Ability to read and understand company rules and GMPs., • Ability to work efficiently and safely, following all safety procedures., • Strong troubleshooting skills in mechanical, electrical, hydraulics, and pneumatics., • Ability to handle problems involving several concrete variables., • Computer skills are helpful., • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required., • Good judgment and ability to get along with coworkers and management. Work Environment The work environment is large and team-oriented, with temperature ranges from very cold to very warm in certain areas. Employees must be okay with foul smells as this is a dairy facility. The use of non-slip footwear and rubber gloves is necessary due to slippery and wet floors. The work area is noisy and may require hearing protection. Employees will be subject to temperatures ranging from 30 to 130 degrees F and may need to enter confined spaces. The environment involves exposure to moving mechanical parts, ammonia, acids, caustics, chlorines, fumes, hazardous gases, and other chemicals. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $31.83 - $40.31/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
