Job DescriptionDescriptionThis role is ONSITE in NYC; work onsite in NYC three days a week is required. Overview NYPL Digital is responsible for the digital transformation of the Library, delivering robust core patron-facing services through digital platforms. This is a great opportunity to play a pivotal role in facilitating the next major step forward in enabling NYPL researchers around the world to find and access NYPL’s unique digital collection of materials. We are seeking a Technical Project Manager to join the Research Catalog development team, bringing a solid experience in leading agile teams across the full lifecycle of product development. The primary function of this role will be to drive the delivery of strategic/tactical initiatives for the Research Catalog and drive stakeholder communication and engagement across Research divisions and consortial partners. A successful candidate will thrive working through ambiguity to drive clarity and consensus, and be proactive in identifying and mitigating risks and issues. We are looking for someone we can count on to:Own: • End-to-end planning and coordination of strategic projects across development teams and working groups, • Project and communication plans, timelines, and project status reports of both internal and vendor teams, • Quarterly planning process for digital product initiatives; encompassing goal-setting, timeline creation, and continuous improvement, • Collaboration and coordination with cross-functional teams to establish and achieve strategic goals, manage resources, define and protect project scope, • Coordination of successful deployments, • Project documentation and reports Teach:, • Simplified processes and workflows to drive optimal, efficient results, • Best practices in iterative development and incremental improvements Learn:, • NYPL's systems, tools, products, services, and organizational structure, • The basics of library data and standard library technology, • The Digital team's product development processImprove:, • Communication, dynamics, and collaboration across team, department, working groups, and stakeholders, • Team workflows to enhance efficiency, velocity, and collaborative opportunities, • Estimate accuracy and release frequency Some expectations for this role are that within:1 month, this person will:, • Understand the functional structure and core mission of NYPL, • Understand the organization, roles, and culture within the Digital Team, stakeholder, and leadership groups, • Understand basic functionality of the Research Catalog, and key initiatives on the roadmap, • Organize project documentation and artifacts; take ownership of scrum ceremonies, project deliverables, and build project plans3 months, this person will:, • Gain an understanding of the institutional strategy and how the projects and deliverables contribute to institutional goals, • Establish strong, collaborative relationships between team members, stakeholders, and leadership, • Identify opportunities for process improvement and develop strategies to address them6 months and beyond, this person will:, • Lead robust, aligned, high performing project teams, • Drive development and execution of sprint, quarterly and annual goals, • Take responsibility for overall delivery and management of all assigned projectsResponsibilities:, • Lead end-to-end product development processes from inception through delivery, • Develop communication and capacity plans, project timelines, and provide project status updates to department and cross-functional Library partners, • Identify and mitigate project risks and issues, • Lead all scrum ceremonies, with a focus on team process and enabling rapid product development, • Oversee partner vendors or agencies that may be involved in project delivery, • Support annual and quarterly roadmapping for the Research Catalog team, • Own progress tracking of established goals, and proactively adjust processes and plans as needed, • Cultivate relationships with stakeholders, resulting in strengthened partnerships, • Bachelor’s degree - OR - 5 year’s experience managing software and/or web application development projects as a project manager/technical project manager, • PMP and/or CSMRequired Experience, • 5 years' experience managing software and/or web application development teams and projects or programs, • Experience working in academic or research libraries, publishing, or an adjacent sector, • Experience with a variety of Agile and project tracking tools, specifically Jira, and ConfluenceRequired Skills, • Proven ability to:, • Develop and manage project timelines, escalating risks and dependencies as needed, • Proactively identify problems and propose solutions, • Operate both strategically and tactically, • Work both collaboratively and independently to achieve planned results, • Drive highly visible projects with cross-functional teams, • Excellent verbal and written communication; strong presentation skills, • Demonstrated experience as Scrum Master and leading a team of front and backend engineers, • Management of external vendors, consultancies or agency teams, • Understanding of backend and frontend technologies, and knowledge of emerging technologies, like AIManagerial/Supervisory Responsibilities:, • Be Helpful to patrons and colleagues, • Be Resourceful in solving problems, • Be Curious in all aspects of your work, • Be Welcoming and InclusiveWork Environment, • Hybrid work environment; requires working three days onsite in NYC, • Office environmentPhysical Duties, • Some light lifting/moving may be requiredPre-Placement Physical Required?, • NoUnion/Non Union, • Non-UnionFLSA Status, • ExemptSchedule, • Monday - Friday; 9-5, • Hybrid work environment; 3 days a week onsite in NYC is requiredThis job description represents the types and levels of responsibilities that will be required of the position and shall not be construed as a declaration of all of the specific duties and responsibilities for the role.
