Job Title and Reporting: Business Intelligence (BI) Developer, reporting to the BI Manager Annual Base Salary: $90,000–$100,000/Bonus Eligible FLSA Status: Salaried/Exempt/Full-time Location(s): Phoenix, Arizona (Hybrid) Position Overview. We are looking for a thoughtful and detail-oriented BI Developer to join our growing Data & Analytics team. This role goes beyond just building reports, it’s about designing intuitive, high-impact data experiences. The ideal candidate combines technical skills in Power BI, SQL, and Microsoft’s modern data stack (including Fabric and Activator) with a strong eye for user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design. In this role, you will work closely with key stakeholders to turn raw data into elegant, insightful dashboards that prioritize clarity, usability, and actionability. As the BI Developer, you will be responsible for building scalable, user-friendly reporting solutions and delivering actionable insights to business users across the organization. Your essential duties and key responsibilities include the following, but are not limited to: • Designs, develops, and maintains visually intuitive Power BI dashboards and reports using UI/UX best practices, • Builds and manages scalable data models and semantic layers for efficient reporting, • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to understand needs and iterate on dashboard designs based on feedback, • Leverages Excel and Power Query for data validation, ad hoc reporting, and reconciliation tasks, • Ensures data quality, integrity, and consistency across all reporting products, • Develops and maintains documentation around KPIs, data definitions, and report usage guidelines, • Writes advanced SQL queries to transform and extract data from various structured and unstructured sources, • Works with Microsoft Fabric tools (Lakehouse, Pipelines, Dataflows) to streamline data ingestion and processing, • Utilizes Microsoft Activator to create alerting and automation workflows that drive proactive decision-making, • Stays current on design trends and BI innovations to continuously improve the user experience, • Black Rock Coffee Bar reserves the right to add or modify duties and responsibilities at any time and at its sole discretion. Work Environment. This position operates primarily in an office environment (onsite or remote) with approximately 15% travel required to attend meetings, events, and engagements with internal and external stakeholders. The essential duties of this role require the ability to perform the following physical tasks: • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, working on a computer., • Effective verbal and written communication skills for meetings, presentations, and correspondence., • Ability to attend, lead, and actively participate in meetings, events, and presentations., • Mobility to navigate office spaces and external worksites as necessary., • Manual dexterity to operate office equipment and complete essential job functions., • Visual acuity to review and analyze reports, documents, and data., • Auditory ability to engage in discussions and meetings effectively., • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 15 pounds., • Travel required, including via aircraft and motor vehicle, to support business needs. Skills and Competencies. To excel in this role, you should bring a combination of technical expertise and interpersonal abilities, including the following essential skills and competencies: • 2-4 years of experience in BI development, data analysis, or report design, • Advanced Power BI skills, including DAX, Power Query (M), data modeling, and interactive visual features, • Proficient in SQL, including window functions, CTEs, and query optimization, • Strong Excel capabilities, including pivot tables, Power Query, advanced formulas, and reconciliation workflows, • Experience designing dashboards with UI/UX best practices (layout, hierarchy, accessibility), • Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric (Dataflows, Lakehouse, Pipelines) and modern data architecture, • Understanding of data governance, accuracy, and version control standards, • Proven ability to gather business requirements and translate into technical solutions, • Experience with Microsoft Activator or similar automation and alerting tools, • Exposure to UI/UX tools (Figma, Sketch) or frontend frameworks (preferred), • Background in retail, restaurant, or multi-location environments (preferred), • Knowledge of Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps) for workflow automation, • Effective in both independent and cross-functional team environments, • Strong problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills, • Highly organized, process-driven, and focused on data integrity and reliability Benefits.
