Job DescriptionProject Accountant Construction Project Accountant - Construction Position Overview The Project Accountant will manage financial operations for multiple construction projects, ensuring accurate job costing, timely billing, and compliant financial reporting. This role owns Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting, supports project managers with financial analysis, maintains project-level ledgers, and ensures adherence to accounting standards, contract terms and company controls. Key Responsibilities • Prepare and maintain detailed project accounting records, including job cost ledgers, cost-to-complete analyses, and variance explanations., • Own Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting and monthly WIP reconciliations; prepare WIP rollforwards and support percentage-of-completion calculations., • Generate and process AIA billing, progress billing, retainage tracking and final billings in accordance with contract terms., • Manage change order accounting and ensure timely recognition and documentation of approved changes., • Prepare and review job cost reports to monitor labor, materials, subcontractor costs, equipment and overhead allocations., • Reconcile subcontractor invoices, process 1099s, administer lien waivers and releases, and coordinate subcontractor management tasks., • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable related to projects; post billings and collections and follow up on past due accounts., • Perform month-end close for project accounts: post accruals, allocations, cost transfers and ensure GL reconciliation to project records., • Support cash flow forecasting for active projects and assist with budget vs. actual forecasting and cost control initiatives., • Prepare and deliver project financial reports and insights to project managers and executives; support internal and external audit requests., • Maintain strong internal controls, ensure compliance with GAAP, contract administration requirements, prevailing wage and certified payroll where applicable., • Operate and maintain project financials in ERP systems; import/export data, prepare backup schedules and support system implementations and upgrades.Qualifications, • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance or related field, or equivalent experience; CPA or CMA preferred., • Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on construction or project accounting experience (public works/prevailing wage experience a plus)., • Demonstrated expertise in Construction Accounting, Work-in-Progress (WIP) Reporting and Project Accounting., • Proven experience with job costing, preparing job cost reports, AIA/progress billing, change order and retainage management., • Strong knowledge of revenue recognition methods and percentage-of-completion accounting under GAAP., • Experience with lien waivers and releases, 1099 processing, tax compliance and audit support., • Proficiency with general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable processes and month-end close procedures., • Advanced Excel skills (PivotTables, VLOOKUP, Power Query) and experience with ERP/financial systems such as Sage 300/Timberline, Viewpoint, QuickBooks, Oracle or SAP., • Experience with construction-focused tools and reporting platforms such as Procore Financials, Microsoft Project and BI tools (Power BI, Tableau) is desirable., • Familiarity with bonding and surety, certified payroll, cost code management, budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management., • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across project teams., • Ability to prioritize competing deadlines, manage multiple projects concurrently and support both field and office stakeholders. - For this position, you must be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship for a non-immigrant visa.
