Job DescriptionJob Title: Bilingual Phlebotomist Job Description This role provides expert support in blood collection and specimen preparation while ensuring patients feel comfortable and well-informed throughout the process. The bilingual phlebotomist works with a wide range of patients, consistently obtaining high-quality samples with minimal discomfort and contributing to a high standard of patient care. Responsibilities • Perform venipuncture and other blood draws accurately and safely using straight needles and butterfly needles., • Collect, label, and store blood, urine, fecal, and other specimens according to established procedures and test requirements., • Explain venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures clearly and courteously to patients to reduce anxiety and ensure understanding., • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and verify that all information is 100% accurate., • Centrifuge, split, freeze, and otherwise process specimens as required by specific test orders and protocols., • Package specimens properly for transport, maintaining specimen integrity by following temperature and handling requirements., • Record maintenance data, perform decontamination tasks, and update patient information accurately in the appropriate systems., • Read and communicate laboratory results over the phone to satisfy inquiries, ensuring information is conveyed clearly and professionally., • Understand and fully interpret physicians’ orders related to laboratory testing and specimen requirements., • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and follow all safety and infection control procedures., • Attend required annual department trainings and maintain up-to-date knowledge of phlebotomy practices and protocols., • Demonstrate strong administrative skills, including accurate documentation and attention to detail in all aspects of specimen handling and patient records.Essential Skills, • 2–3 years of hands-on experience drawing blood in a clinical or laboratory setting., • Proficiency in phlebotomy techniques, including venipuncture with straight needles and butterfly needles., • Experience with blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifuging, and specimen processing., • Ability to collect and handle a variety of specimens, including blood, urine, and fecal samples, according to established procedures., • Strong attention to detail for matching requisition forms to specimen tubes and verifying accuracy of test orders., • Ability to understand and follow physicians’ orders related to laboratory testing., • Knowledge of OSHA and DEP regulations and adherence to safety and infection control standards., • Effective communication skills to clearly explain procedures to patients and respond to telephone inquiries., • Bilingual communication skills to support a diverse patient population., • Strong administrative skills, including accurate data entry, record-keeping, and patient information updates.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience working with pediatric patients and providing age-appropriate communication and reassurance during blood draws., • Comfort with in-state travel and working in different locations, offering flexibility and variety in the workday., • Ability to manage a part-time schedule with the option to pick up additional hours to approach full-time work., • Customer service mindset with a focus on patient comfort, professionalism, and empathy.Work Environment This is a part-time role with core hours typically from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on weekdays and rotating Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with opportunities to pick up additional hours to increase total weekly time. The position involves in-state travel and working in multiple clinical or laboratory locations, providing variety in the day-to-day environment. The role requires wearing appropriate clinical attire and using standard phlebotomy and laboratory equipment, including needles, collection tubes, centrifuges, and specimen transport containers. The work setting is professional, patient-focused, and safety-conscious, with a strong emphasis on compliance with regulatory standards and participation in annual department training. The schedule does not include holiday work or vacation coverage, offering a consistent and predictable work pattern. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Port Chester, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
