    JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Youth Development Coach - Elementary Schools Reports to: Senior Program Manager Job Type: Nonexempt and Part Time Salary: $17/Hour SUMMARY The Youth Development Coach will lead engaging academic and enrichment activities that foster the growth, well-being, and success of high school students in the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21C) after school programs. This role is responsible for designing and delivering dynamic lesson plans aligned with the PowerPlay program model, integrating physical, social-emotional, and academic learning. The ideal candidate demonstrates initiative, adaptability, and a commitment to promoting a positive, mission-driven culture that reflects PowerPlay’s core values and vision for youth development ABOUT POWERPLAY PowerPlay is a nonprofit organization with a mission to advance the lives of girls through sports, helping them grow physically, emotionally, and academically stronger. We serve more than 1,300 young people ages 5–18 each year, 97% of whom are youth of color—primarily Black and Latinx girls. Each year, PowerPlay partners with an average of 30 public schools and community-based organizations across all five boroughs of New York City, bringing after-school and summer programs to underserved communities with a focus on physical fitness and education. We deliver three core programs: STARS Series, which serves elementary and middle school girls across all five boroughs; STARS CGI (Citywide Girls Initiative), where PowerPlay leads a coalition of 10 nonprofits supporting the healthy development of 6,000 girls citywide; and 21C. About 21C 21C empowers Bronx students in the underserved communities of Concourse and Morrisania with leadership, healthy living, and academic enrichment to foster resilience and college/career readiness. Serving 774 youth (in FY25) across five high-need schools, 21C offers sports, STEM, tutoring, SAT and Regents test prep, the arts, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), and entrepreneurship, in partnership with Platinum Edge Tutoring. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Administrative responsibilities: • Collect enrollment packets and pre/post surveys from school or site contacts within required deadlines., • Track weekly attendance and maintain accurate site rosters., • Submit online timecards on time in accordance with program requirements Coaching & Facilitation: • Develop and share lesson plans and activity outlines ahead of sessions with site staff and PowerPlay NYC Senior Program Manager in adherence with established due dates., • Maintain professional communication and appropriate boundaries with participants and colleagues (email, social media, and in-person)., • Follow mandated reporting procedures for any suspicion of child abuse or neglect, with guidance from the leadership team., • Keep PowerPlay staff informed of relevant site updates, including challenges impacting responsibilities., • Document and report site injuries using the required forms and notify the Senior Program Manager and Site Coordinators immediately., • Communicate promptly with PowerPlay NYC leadership regarding conflict resolution, crisis intervention, or student emotional concerns. Professional Development: • Participate in all required trainings and program meetings to enhance coaching skills and ensure high-quality program delivery. Elementary school coaches are expected to complete 15 hours of professional development within their first six months of employment. QUALIFICATIONS • Minimum of 1 year of experience working with school-age children or youth in a coaching, teaching, or mentoring capacity, • Complete a 6,000-series OCFS application packet as part of employment requirements., • Undergo fingerprinting through the DOE and DOH and submit proof of completion to the Senior Program Manager and Site Coordinator, • Submit a completed SCR (Statewide Central Register) Clearance form., • Provide documentation of a yearly physical exam, including a TB test., • Submit a copy of up-to-date immunization records (measles, mumps, rubella, etc.), • Demonstrated commitment to the mission, vision, and culture of PowerPlay NYC, with a strong sense of urgency in delivering high-quality programs., • Knowledgeable and skilled in a variety of enrichment activities, with proven experience teaching and coaching youth successfully., • Strong problem-solving abilities, including the capacity to anticipate challenges, analyze situations, and recommend effective solutions., • Proactive, resourceful, and solutions-oriented with a “can-do” attitude., • Collaborative team player with a positive mindset and the ability to build strong connections with students, staff, and community partners., • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to engage respectfully and effectively with diverse populations., • Commitment to maintaining the confidentiality of student information and adhering to childcare guidelines., • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions with attention to detail and consistency. EDUCATION • High School Diploma or Equivalent and/or working towards an Associate's/Bachelor’s degree in a related field COMPUTER SKILLS • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products, • Knowledge of utilizing Google Drive to receive and share documents PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS • The usual and customary methods of performing this position’s functions require the following physical demands:, • Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling so has a moderate degree of physical stamina., • Frequent and prolonged standing, walking, bending and occasional lifting up to 50lbs.
