Job Description CNBC is seeking an experienced Econ Columnist to help readers make sense of the most important forces shaping the global economy. This role is centered on step-back thinking and high-level analysis—connecting data, original reporting, market signals, and policy developments into clear, authoritative columns that explain what matters and why. The ideal candidate is a big-picture thinker who can move fluidly between economic data, conversations with sources, and the work of CNBC’s reporters to surface insights that go beyond the daily news cycle. This columnist will not simply react to economic releases or market moves, but will provide context, perspective, and interpretation that helps a broad audience understand longer-term trends, trade-offs, and implications for markets, businesses, and consumers. This role requires intellectual curiosity, strong news judgment, and the ability to write with clarity and confidence about complex economic topics—without oversimplifying or overhyping them.
