Wilmington College invites applications for a staff position as Site Coordinator for its Prison Education Program (PEP) to begin as soon as possible. This is a full-time, 12-month administrative position that has responsibility for working with the Wilmington College Prison Education Program Manager, PEP Academic Area Coordinator, faculty, and other staff members at Wilmington College to coordinate the delivery of the College’s bachelor’s degree to incarcerated students at the Dayton Correctional Institution (DCI) in Dayton, Ohio. DCI is a women’s prison. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • Being onsite at Dayton Correctional Institution where Wilmington College offers its degree programs., • Supervising classes as needed, including during evening hours, at DCI., • Obtaining, verifying, and documenting high school/GED eligibility and other eligibility requirements as established by Wilmington College and the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections (ODRC)., • Assisting with recruitment, enrollment, registration, student support, faculty support, and the maintenance of student academic records, such as obtaining lists of prospective students, vetting student qualifications, recruiting these students to the program, and working with the Prison Education Program Manager and other Site Coordinators* to create student admission files and advising files. *Wilmington College also offers bachelor’s degree programs at Warren Correctional Institution and Lebanon Correctional Institution., • Interacting with and supporting incarcerated students in person and on site throughout the program., • Assisting incarcerated students at DCI with completing the FAFSA and other financial documents during the enrollment process and under the guidance of the PEP Financial Aid coordinator., • Maintaining essential paperwork and assisting in extensive record-keeping for both Wilmington College and the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction., • Making decisions proactively to resolve issues that arise onsite at Dayton Correctional Institution., • Working with the Wilmington College PEP Core Operations Committee to support reentry services for returning citizens to continue their education at Wilmington College, to transfer their credits to another academic institution, or to reenter the work force., • Ensuring all books and supplies are provided to faculty and students at DCI as needed., • Assisting faculty in liaising with ODRC to get clearance to enter Dayton Correctional Institution and bring in materials needed for their classes., • Coordinating with the PEP Area Coordinator to help faculty to successfully navigate the special rules, requirements, and culture of a Wilmington College PEP prison location., • Overseeing onsite logistics in terms of administrative offices, classroom reservations, and equipment use by faculty, staff, and students., • Working with the Prison Education Program Manager to oversee part-time Wilmington College PEP hourly support staff who are needed to assist with coverage of DCI site while instructors are in class., • Organizing new student orientation at Dayton Correctional Institution., • Monitoring and submitting accurate records for attendance and student conduct at DCI., • Maintaining accurate student enrollment and registration records in the ODRC database., • Ensuring that DCI students receive their passes to attend class., • Scheduling and staffing study sessions for incarcerated students., • Working with the PEP Manager, PEP Academic Area Coordinator, other Site Coordinators, and other relevant PEP team members to resolve shared and unique issues related to PEP operations., • Envisioning, executing, and facilitating special projects at the Wilmington College PEP locations in collaboration with the PEP team and, at times, independently., • Attending some regular meetings on Wilmington College’s main campus and virtual Team’s meetings., • Bachelor’s degree required., • Strong customer service orientation, creativity, and problem-solving skills., • Demonstrated ability to manage conflict and resolve disagreements constructively., • Ability to adapt to frequently changing situations and manage stress effectively., • Strong sense of self-awareness and empathy., • Demonstrated and verified commitment to a positive culture of respect for all persons and have demonstrated an ability to build working relationships with people and students with a wide variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences different from one’s own., • Commitment to higher education opportunities for incarcerated individuals., • Strong verbal and written communication skills., • Strong detail orientation with good personal planning and time-management skills and a history of performing these skills with minimal in person supervision in a complex operation., • Experience in Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and different databases is required., • Ability to work varied schedules each week, including evenings., • Must have a valid U.S driver’s license and a reliable car for travel between the various locations., • Required to stand, walk and sit; talk or hear, both in person and by telecommunication; use of hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms. Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Review of applications will begin immediately.
