Job DescriptionJob Title: Maintenance Manager Job Description The Maintenance Manager provides overall direction and guidance to the team responsible for maintaining plant equipment, machinery, buildings, and property in a safe, reliable, and cost-effective manner. This role oversees preventive and corrective maintenance, supports equipment design and installation, manages maintenance-related purchasing and documentation, and drives continuous improvement in equipment reliability, safety, and cost control. Responsibilities • Analyze the severity of maintenance issues and prioritize daily work and emergencies to minimize plant downtime and maximize productivity., • Assign maintenance work orders, clearly instruct subordinates on repair methods, and follow up to ensure timely completion., • Develop and manage preventive maintenance schedules for plant equipment and facilities, ensuring tasks are completed on time and to a high standard., • Monitor all repairs for quality, method of repair, and cost effectiveness, and implement improvements where needed., • Perform basic plant and field engineering related to equipment design, fabrication, and installation., • Inspect completed repairs for structural soundness, reliability, and opportunities to improve operations and reduce costs., • Prepare and maintain accurate blueprints, sketches, and drawings with correct data and dimensions for plant modifications, new installations, and current applications., • Locate, source, and purchase necessary materials, parts, and services for maintenance and electrical repairs., • Investigate and recommend material substitutions and alternative components to improve equipment performance and process efficiency., • Understand and manage budgetary figures for electrical and mechanical projects, ensuring adherence to projected costs., • Maintain an active cost reduction program, tracking past projects, analyzing results, and evaluating new cost-saving ideas., • Screen all maintenance and electrical purchase requests and coordinate with suppliers regarding availability, pricing, quality, and suitable substitutions., • Track purchases from initiation through delivery, storage, installation or use, and payment approval, ensuring accurate records at each stage., • Generate, organize, and maintain paperwork and files for all electrical and mechanical items purchased, including equipment history and documentation., • Ensure a safe working environment for plant maintenance employees, contractors, and visitors by promoting and enforcing safety procedures and standards., • Coordinate equipment and facility shutdowns with the production department to minimize disruption and maximize efficiency., • Review production records to monitor daily equipment usage and analyze data to improve equipment utilization and reliability., • Collaborate with other departments to support production goals, resolve equipment issues, and plan maintenance activities., • Perform other related duties and projects as assigned by management.Essential Skills, • Bachelor’s degree in an industry-related field, or 4 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience., • Understanding of economies, business practices, operational and construction costs and practices, and applicable government regulations., • Knowledge of the economic and practical dynamics of the zinc business or similar industrial environment., • Strong working knowledge of inventory control systems and their application in a maintenance setting., • Ability to analyze maintenance problems, prioritize tasks, and make sound decisions under time pressure., • Proficiency in planning and managing preventive maintenance programs for plant equipment and facilities., • Experience reading, creating, and interpreting blueprints, sketches, and technical drawings., • Capability to perform basic plant and field engineering related to equipment design, fabrication, and installation., • Strong organizational skills to track purchases, maintain documentation, and manage equipment history., • Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and enforcing safety standards and procedures., • Effective communication skills to direct maintenance staff, coordinate with production, and work with suppliers., • Ability to manage and adhere to project budgets for electrical and mechanical work., • Knowledge of PLC programming and PLC control systems sufficient to support maintenance and troubleshooting activities.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience in a heavy industrial, metals, or process manufacturing environment, particularly related to zinc or similar operations., • Familiarity with government regulations affecting plant operations, construction, and maintenance activities., • Experience evaluating and implementing material substitutions and process improvements to enhance reliability and reduce costs., • Background in cost reduction initiatives, including tracking project outcomes and identifying new savings opportunities., • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and service providers., • Experience coordinating facility or equipment shutdowns with production and other departments., • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop maintenance personnel., • Comfort working in a non-climate-controlled industrial environment and adapting to varying shift needs.Why Work Here? Work involves regular interaction with plant equipment, machinery, and production areas, requiring adherence to safety protocols and use of appropriate personal protective equipment. The position interfaces closely with production teams, contractors, and suppliers, and may involve time both in the maintenance shop and out in the field. Technologies and tools used include inventory control systems, PLC programming and control systems, and standard industrial maintenance and engineering equipment.
