Responsibilities: • Prepares and administers anesthetic agents to patients to desensitize them to permit the performance of medical or surgical procedures., • Performs pre-anesthesia evaluation of the patient to ascertain physiological and psychological factors that influence the selection of the anesthetic agent and the formulation of the plan of anesthetic management., • Monitors the patient in the operating room to maintain the patient in a homeostatic condition and to assure that unnecessary injuries are not inflicted on the patient., • Records anesthetic information on the anesthesia chart to provide a permanent record necessary for the care of the patient, to provide material for teaching, for study, and to establish a medical-legal record., • Provides clinical supervision or guidance of nurse anesthesia students, paramedical, and medical students to contribute to their clinical training., • Responds to emergencies., • Certification as a Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA)., • Current New York Licensure as a Registered Nurse and APRN., • Current American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) certification., • BLS, ACLS, and/or other specialty certifications as required by the department., • A minimum of 6 months of experience in anesthetizing pediatric patients is desirable., • Competency in pediatric airway device placement and vascular access., • Experience in critical and acute care areas, especially pediatric or neonatal., • Familiarity with EKG, arterial, central venous, and pulmonary artery pressure monitoring., • Skilled in respiratory management and blood gas analysis.
