Job DescriptionSalary: $19.00 SUMMARY The Southern Queens Parks Association is looking for dynamic individuals to join the team as an Activity Specialists at the P.S. 35Q Nathaniel Woodhull School COMPASS program. The Comprehensive Afterschool System (COMPASS) of NYC program serves young people enrolled in grades K-12. SONYC, which stands for Schools Out NYC, is the COMPASS middle school model that serves as a pathway to success for youth in 6th, 7th and 8th grades. Structured like clubs, the model offers youth choice in how they spend their time; provides rigorous instruction in sports, arts and youth leadership. NYC becomes the classroom through trips and opportunities for instruction beyond the traditional facilities. Programs are offered 5 days per week during the school year. Services are also offered during the summer months. This specific outreach operates under the SQPA umbrella through use of its facilities, programming and thought leaders. ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES The Activity specialist should have an interest in working with youths. They should show expertise in one or more disciplines or content-specific program activities or subjects such as dance, drama, STEAM, sports (typical and playground games), or other activity or subject that enriches the experiences of children and youth.The Activity Specialist is responsible for creating age-appropriate activities and to also monitor student progress. The Activity Specialist also provides academic support to meet the specific needs of students. The instructor will be responsible for developing lesson plans and implementing activities in accordance with the safety rules and regulations that coincide with departmental rules, regulations, and safety practices. Primary Job Duties: • Develop and implement a diverse range of age-appropriate activities, including arts, sports, academic enrichment, and recreational games., • Ensure activities align with the programs goals and objectives, focusing on youth development, social-emotional learning, and skill-building., • Lead and supervise groups of children during activities, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment. Collaborate with other staff members to plan special events, field trips, and themed programming., • Monitor and assess the needs and interests of program participants to adjust activities accordingly., • Maintain accurate attendance records and activity logs for program evaluation and reporting., • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to provide updates on their child(ren)'s progress and participation., • Assist in the setup, cleanup, and organization of program materials and spaces., • Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure the well-being of all participants., • Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities as required., • Support the programs mission and values by modeling positive behavior and fostering a respectful and inclusive environment., • Plan curriculum and develop activity plans in collaboration with the educational specialist orother identified staff., • Understands, articulates and utilizes the DYCD core competencies in conjunction with instruction and planning., • Participates in program evaluation processes; completes staff satisfaction surveys. Reviews and understands site visit tools., • Provide supervision, direction and feedback to program youth, support staff, interns and volunteers., • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others., • Maintains regular open communication with parents, staff, and direct supervisors; Report any incidents and concerns to the assistant site program director and site program director., • Perform other projects assigned at the discretion of the assistant site program director and site program director. Job DescriptionSalary: $17-$19 SUMMARY The Southern Queens Parks Association is seeking acustomer service, detail-orientedperson to join the team as the daytimemaintenance workerat the Roy Wilkins Recreation Center. This position is responsible for overseeing the upkeep of specific spaces within the Roy Wilkin Recreation Center. This person will work with SQPA's operations leadership to develop and improve maintenance routines and plans. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining cleanliness and order within our facilities, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all. This position requires a proactive approach to custodial duties, with an emphasis on both routine and occasional specialized cleaning tasks. Primary duties include the following: • The physical ability to perform maintenance, cleaning, and general upkeep of SQPA s work rooms, classrooms, gym, activity rooms, kitchen, bathrooms, hallways and administrative offices., • Responsible for events set-ups and breakdowns., • Serve as the communication point for the maintenance team (mostly via email), • Maintain SQPAs tools and equipment to ensure that they remain in working condition., • Monitor and remove all garbage from SQPA areas during the work shift., • Ability to identify issues and to determine repairs that are needed., • Oversee the ordering and stocking of operating supplies, • Perform regular maintenance inspections and record findings, • Follow established safety protocols and procedures while performing all tasks. Other Expectations Include: • Occasional trips to offsite locations and vendors., • Ability to use equipment, including commercial vacuums, floor and carpet cleaners, • Occasional residential painting projects, • Familiarity with industrial cleaning practices and commercial cleaning standards., • Minimum of one year experience preferred., • Checks are required. Grossley). Our programs are structured like clubs and offers enrichment in youth academics, sports, performing arts, community service projects and peer mediation conflict resolution. This position requires the demonstration of a high degree of interpersonal skills, proven resourcefulness, and motivation in developing a full services program.. The assistant program director assists with all work-related activities including supervision of program staff and participants, training, development, and implementation of the goals of the program contracts, as written. PRIMARY ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES Assist in ensuring that all participants are following agency and program policies. Assist with supervising and providing leadership for classroom staff; assist with the scheduling and direction of all activities. Assist with ensuring that program participants are engaged in daily activities and all other duties required to guarantee the safety and security of all participants; making certain that there is proper staff to student coverage. Ensures that all attendance sheets are collected at the end of each program day, and numbers are forwarded to the administrator. Communicate program challenges and success with the Afterschool director. Assist in coordinating staff meetings, training and development. Participation in the identification, recruitment, and retention of participants. Attend all staff meetings, workshops and trainings, included but not limited to SQPA and DYCD/ExpandED planning meetings. Assist in providing training to staff members as required for the program and continued organizational growth; Ability to identify and secure additional resources as required for program growth. In collaboration with the educational specialist and program site director, assist in researching, developing, and modifying lesson plans based on organizational and/or program themes or initiatives. Assist in collecting and managing data as part of overall strategy for program management and development; Develop relevant resources that would improve and enhance programs and services.
