Job Description Job Description COMPENSATION: Pay Rate: $30.00–$33.00 per hour This represents the good faith estimate of the hourly wage range we reasonably expect to pay for this position upon hire, depending on factors such as the selected candidate's experience, training, education, job-related skills, internal equity, and operational needs. Additional information about our compensation scales is available at: SUMMARY: Under routine direction, of the Senior Manager of Loss Prevention, assist with the ongoing operations of the Loss Prevention Department at Aztec Shops-occupied facilities primarily at Snapdragon Stadium, and on the San Diego State University (SDSU) campus as needed. Duties include providing support to Aztec Shops retail stores, markets, and dining facilities to combat external theft, internal theft, and shrinkage. The Assistant Manager will continuously evaluate Loss Prevention procedures and stay current with evolving tactics and strategies to limit retail loss to Aztec Shops. The Assistant Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of loss prevention activities at Snapdragon Stadium including providing oversight of Loss Prevention Agents when they are assigned to work at Snapdragon Stadium. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. * Assists management with the daily operations, and theft related incidents. * Assists management to ensure that proper procedures and guidelines are in place to reduce shrinkage and limit liability to Aztec Shops. * Serve as the lead for hourly Loss Prevention Agents working Snapdragon Stadium events. * Assist with ensuring Loss Prevention Agents are executing tasks effectively and consistently and work with Loss Prevention Senior Manager to make sure team goals are met. * Support Loss Prevention Agents during active incidents (e.g., theft, fraud), ensuring proper protocols are followed. * Serve as the main point of contact for Loss Prevention matters at Snapdragon Stadium, including customer issues and complaints to ensure customer satisfaction in the absence of the Senior Manager of Loss Prevention. * Assists with planning, coordinating, and preparing investigations involving internal and external theft. * Operate in a sensitive political environment requiring a high degree of discretion and confidentiality. * Ensure the safety and security of all residents, guests, staff and property at all Aztec Shops owned, operated or leased locations, including residential locations, and Snapdragon Stadium. * Assist with training Loss Prevention agents engaged in surveilling and apprehending theft suspects. * Assist with ensuring proper records are maintained and proper video surveillance of all investigations are maintained in accordance with California State University (CSU) policies and applicable laws. * Develops and maintains professional and positive working relationships with customers, coworkers, vendors, student organizations, faculty, staff, University Police, university personnel, and other law enforcement agencies and security contractors. * Operates under the authority of California Penal Code Section 490.5(f)(1) when apprehending theft suspects. * Assist management with coordination and planning of secret shopper investigations. * Provide in-person Loss Prevention awareness training to all Aztec Shops Snapdragon Stadium dining employees. * Evaluates the appropriate surveillance camera coverage in Aztec Shops locations and works with the Loss Prevention Senior Manager on the coordination of any repairs with the contractor. * Responsible for tracking and auditing employee access at Snapdragon Stadium. * Must comply with and ensure continued, consistent compliance with all company policies, and federal, state and local laws/regulations including but not limited to: employment, safety, health. * Other duties may be assigned. Job Requirements MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: The minimum requirement for applicants is a High School diploma or General Education Development (GED) degree; plus at least five years of experience in Loss Prevention/Security Management experience. Associates degree preferred. Certified Forensic Interviewer (CFI), or other investigative certification preferred. At least one year in a supervisory role. Familiarity with regulatory requirements and best practices in loss prevention and safety. Must be proficient in use of computers, CCTV systems, and Microsoft Office and Google Workspace, radio communications and etiquette. Must possess at time of hire, or be able to obtain CPR certification within 6 months post hire and keep all certifications current. This position may involve operating a company vehicle and/or golf cart on university or company property. As such, candidates must have a valid driver’s license and have not been issued more than three moving violations or have been responsible for more than three accidents (or any combination of more than three thereof during the past 12-month period). Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and will be required to provide proof of driving eligibility upon hire. This position may require travel to off-site locations. In accordance with California Senate Bill 1100, employees may use alternative transportation such as public transit or rideshare services. However, individuals may not be driven or dropped off by anyone other than an authorized driver. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must be able to read, write and understand English. Bilingual in Spanish is preferred. Requires the ability to follow verbal and written instructions, guidelines and objectives. Requires the ability to read, comprehend, analyze, and interpret general business information, regulations, and policy manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, coworkers, vendors, other departments, customers, and the general public. Ability to complete written suspect apprehension reports using computer software. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic math. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving multiple variables and active opposition. Must be able to make sound decisions in high stress environments where the consequences of error are great. MANUAL DEXTERITY: Must have average levels of eye/hand/foot coordination. Must be able to utilize a computer. Requires the ability to use a variety of office machines and equipment. PHYSICAL COMMUNICATION: Must have the ability to talk/expressing and/or exchanging ideas and hear/perceiving sounds to allow for normal and emergency communication between individuals and adequate perception of audible warning devices and use of digital radio systems. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to move rapidly during emergency situations, and must be able to run, jump, grapple, and grab. The employee may need to use reasonable force to effect the arrest of criminal suspects. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move non-compliant subjects and must be able to apply safe and proper lifting and/or push-pull techniques in doing so. Specific visual abilities required for this job include close vision, peripheral vision, distance vision, and color vision for extensive reading and interpretation of reports and documents, as well as observation of subjects both direct and via CCTV. WORKING CONDITIONS AND HAZARDS: The primary work environment is in retail stores and food services units with a variety of surroundings. The retail stores are generally carpeted, with merchandise fixtures and HVAC. Some of the food services units do not have HVAC and are hot and humid. May on occasion work on campus at Viejas Arena where they may need to ascend/descend stairs. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Residential facilities are generally carpeted interior environments with HVAC, with some exterior parking lots and sidewalk areas. May on occasion, work outdoors, exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, and allergens, work temperatures, noise levels, and extreme or flashing lights.
