Job DescriptionJob Title: Forklift Mechanic Job Description This role focuses on performing maintenance, repair, replacement, and troubleshooting on a variety of material handling equipment, including propane and electric forklifts. You will ensure that all equipment at internal customer locations operates safely and efficiently by completing service work in a timely and cost-effective manner. The position requires hands-on mechanical and electrical work, accurate completion of paperwork or data entry, and the ability to work independently while making sound decisions about daily tasks and priorities. Responsibilities • Perform maintenance, repair, and replacement on various models of material handling equipment, including propane and electric forklifts., • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues on forklifts and other material handling equipment., • Read and interpret electrical and hydraulic system schematics to diagnose and resolve equipment problems., • Complete all required paperwork or data input accurately to document maintenance and repair activities., • Service equipment at internal customer locations in a timely and cost-effective manner to meet operational requirements., • Use and maintain an adequate set of personal tools necessary to perform all job duties., • Operate material handling equipment once properly certified, following all safety procedures and guidelines., • Communicate effectively with internal customers, demonstrating strong customer service skills and a professional attitude., • Independently plan and organize daily work, making appropriate decisions about what needs to be done and in what order., • Follow all safety protocols, including proper lifting techniques and safe use of tools and equipment., • Frequently push, pull, kneel, bend, and reach as needed to access and repair equipment., • Collaborate with team members or supervisors as needed to resolve complex issues or coordinate service activities.Essential Skills, • Minimum three years of experience in repair and maintenance of material handling equipment., • Specific hands-on experience working with material handling equipment, including propane and electric forklifts., • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems., • Ability to read and understand electrical and hydraulic system schematics., • Proficiency with completing required paperwork or data entry to support all job requirements., • High school diploma, GED, or technical school education (tech school graduate preferred)., • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel., • Valid driver’s license., • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable assistance., • Capability and willingness to frequently push, pull, kneel, bend, and reach to perform repairs., • Ability to become certified to operate material handling equipment., • Strong customer service skills and the ability to interact professionally with internal customers., • Ability to work independently and make appropriate decisions about daily tasks and priorities., • Ownership and maintenance of an adequate set of personal tools required for the role.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Technical school training in mechanics, maintenance, or a related field., • Previous experience as a maintenance technician working with forklifts or similar industrial equipment., • Experience working in warehouse or industrial environments with varying temperatures., • Comfort working in locations where there may be few or no other forklift mechanics on site., • Strong problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to troubleshooting., • Good written and verbal communication skills for documenting work and interacting with internal customers.Why Work Here? Work Environment This is a full-time position with a Monday through Friday schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with some overtime as needed. Work takes place primarily inside warehouses, where temperatures can be hot or cold depending on the time of year. The role is physically active, requiring frequent pushing, pulling, kneeling, bending, and reaching, as well as lifting up to 50 pounds. You will work with material handling equipment, including propane and electric forklifts, and use a variety of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic tools and testing equipment, along with basic computer systems for documentation and reporting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Savannah, GA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $30.00/hr.
