Job Description Job Title: Diesel Technician Job Description This role focuses on performing preventive maintenance and repair on yard trucks, with an emphasis on diesel, electrical, and emission systems. You will diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electrical issues, perform welding and fabrication, and ensure all work meets safety and compliance standards. The position requires hands-on technical expertise, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work independently in an outdoor port environment on a consistent second-shift schedule. Responsibilities • Perform preventive maintenance on yard trucks to ensure safe and reliable operation., • Diagnose and repair electrical systems, including wiring, battery systems, and related components., • Conduct computer-based diagnostics and repairs on engine and emission systems, including DPF/DEF systems., • Execute welding and fabrication tasks as needed to repair or modify equipment., • Repair, adjust, and maintain air brake systems to meet safety and performance standards., • Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and documentation for all maintenance and repair activities., • Follow all safety protocols and procedures and consistently use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)., • Use and maintain personal hand tools and equipment in good working condition., • Collaborate with the Service Manager and team members to prioritize and complete assigned work efficiently., • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Service Manager to support shop and yard operations. Essential Skills • Minimum of 2 years of experience in diesel mechanics or a closely related field., • Hands-on experience performing maintenance and repairs on diesel-powered equipment or vehicles., • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing electrical systems, including wiring and battery systems., • Experience with welding and fabrication for equipment repair and modification., • Familiarity with DPF/DEF systems and emission-related components., • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including air brake systems and hydraulics., • Ability to use computer-based diagnostic tools and basic computer skills for record-keeping., • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record., • DOT/Medical card certification., • Ability to lift up to 70 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks such as stooping, climbing, and kneeling., • Ownership of a complete set of quality hand tools, including sockets, wrenches, pry bars, screwdrivers, hammers, and lighting equipment., • Ability to work second shift hours and mandatory partial Sunday shifts on a consistent basis. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience working on yard trucks, port equipment, or similar heavy-duty vehicles., • Knowledge of hydraulic systems and their maintenance., • Comfort working independently in an outdoor, fast-paced port environment., • Strong attention to detail when documenting work and following safety procedures., • Ability to organize and maintain a personal tool cart or toolbox for efficient workflow., • Effective communication skills to coordinate with supervisors and team members., • Demonstrated reliability and punctuality in previous roles. Work Environment This position is based in a port environment where you will work outdoors and be regularly exposed to the elements, including varying weather conditions. You will work on the second shift from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with a mandatory half shift on Sundays from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The work involves hands-on maintenance and repair of yard trucks and related equipment using diesel, hydraulic, and electrical systems, as well as welding and fabrication tools. You will use a personal set of hand tools, including metric and standard deep and shallow well sockets (1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 inch), ratchets and extensions, pry bars, aligning tools, screwdrivers, wrenches up to 2 inches or metric equivalent, hammers of various sizes, and portable lighting such as dome or handheld lights. The role requires consistent use of PPE and adherence to safety protocols in an active industrial and port setting. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Savannah, GA.
