When performing duties as the Officer In Charge of the Navigation Watch (OICNW), the Mate is the Master’s representative, and their primary responsibility is the safe operation and navigation of the vessel. The Mate shall stand such watches as established by the Master pursuant to directions issued by the Company. When not performing duties as the OICNW, the Mate performs those duties enumerated below, including the provisions of 46 C.F.R. 146.210, as directed by the Master.
