We are seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the Firm’s Accounting Department. This role will manage the accounting team while providing senior leadership with critical financial insights into the Firm’s business activities. Lead Financial Operations. Strengthen Systems. Drive Performance. In this role, you will oversee the Firm’s accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls while leading a high performing accounting team. You will ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data, coordinate key reporting and compliance functions. Key Responsibilities The Controller will: • Manage and supervise the Firm’s 10+ person Accounting Department across a multi-state law firm, • Ensure the accurate and timely processing of financial information, including:, • Practice financial results, • Billing, • Accounts receivable, • Accounts payable, • Bank compliance, • Oversee management of the Firm’s Legal Management System (LMS) to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data, file management, and conflicts workflow, • Coordinate month end and year end closing activities, • Review the Firm’s partnership tax returns, • Maintain and reconcile partner capital accounts, • Identify and resolve discrepancies in accounting records by working with clients, vendors, attorneys, and staff, • Liaise with the Firm’s outside accounting firm to coordinate year end audits and tax return preparation, • Prepare and monitor financial trends, reports, and key performance metrics, • Conduct financial and profitability analyses across all areas of the Firm, • Prepare special financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing financial information and trends, • Prepare and monitor the Firm’s annual financial budget, including periodic forecasts throughout the year, • Develop, document, and enforce internal controls, policies, procedures, and workflow processes, • Improve operational efficiency by automating financial reporting and workflow processes, • Lead departmental projects and conduct annual employee performance reviews, • Oversee management of the Firm’s insurance policies What You’ll Bring Qualified candidates will have: • Strong understanding of law firm accounting procedures, • Experience with the Rippe Legal Management System preferred, • Advanced Microsoft Excel expertise, • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines, • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills, • Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly and effectively, • Professional discretion when handling sensitive financial matters, • A proactive mindset with the ability to identify improvements and recommend solutions Education & Experience • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required, • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred but not required, • 7+ years of accounting experience within a law firm or professional services firm, • Experience supervising accounting staff Compensation & Benefits We offer a competitive salary, an excellent benefits package, and a collaborative, friendly environment.
