Job Description Position Title: Long-Term Substitute Teacher Mission Statement: Learn – Love – Lead. Inspiring curiosity, kindness, and dignity in a caring Christian community Position Description: St. Mary’s Episcopal Day School has several long-term substitute teacher positions open for the 2026-2027 school year. The Long-Term Substitute Teacher for the 2026 - 2027 school year is responsible for faithfully carrying out all the responsibilities of a teacher as described in the St. Mary’s Episcopal Day School mission statement. This is a temporary position for approximately 12 weeks with an anticipated start date of August 10, 2026, and end date of November 6, 2026. This individual will be responsible for teaching classes and providing various duty coverages. Work is performed under the supervision of the Division Head and Head of School. Participation is required in weekly division teacher meetings as well as full faculty meetings. This individual will understand and model St. Mary’s mission statement: Learn – Love – Lead – Inspiring curiosity, kindness, and dignity in a caring Christian community. In addition, the Long-Term Substitute Teacher will have a proven ability to work and communicate well with coworkers, parents, vendors and students, embrace the St. Mary’s Episcopal Day School culture and educational model, collaborate with fellow faculty and staff members, and serve as a contributing member of the school community. Essential Functions: The Long-Term Substitute Teacher responsibilities include: • Teach lessons to students in the respective grade level, • Supervise students in and out of the classroom including during assigned duties, • Create a welcoming classroom environment that values diversity and inclusion and prioritizes student wellness and growth, • Supervise and ensure safety of students during snack, transfers, recess, lunch, or other areas as needed, • Meet regularly with Division Heads and participate in committee, department, and staff meetings as well as school-sponsored events., • Follow child safety and reporting requirements in the case of suspected child abuse or neglect, • Collaborate and communicate with other St. Mary’s faculty/staff, • Assume responsibility for other projects and duties as assigned by the Division Head and Head of School. Qualifications:, • Exceptional integrity, confidentiality, interpersonal, communication and organizational skills, • Demonstrated love of working with students, • Willingness to work and communicate effectively with all constituencies of the school, • Reinforce the school’s core values, guiding philosophy, rules, and school spirit consistently, • Proficiency in the usage of database software, internet software, and email. Ability to proficiently use Google suite of products (docs, sheets, calendar, mail, drive). Ability to type accurately and proficiently, • Ability to exercise good judgement and work in an environment with constant interruptions, • CPR/First Aid certified, • Grant permission for a credit check and criminal background check Education & Experience: • Undergraduate degree, • Excellent communication and organizational skillsPhysical Demands and Work Environment:The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
