Our team of approximately 80 professionals is committed to providing competitive pricing and reliable service for our customers. \n \n Position Overview \n Guzman Energy is seeking a Day-Ahead Power Trader to support and strengthen our short-term trading operations. This role focuses on DA/cash and intraday trading, providing peer leadership, situational coordination, and tactical decision support to the Real-Time desk during \n fast-moving market conditions. While not a formal manager, the Day-Ahead Power Trader acts as a mentor, strategy driver, and first point of coordination on the desk when markets are active. The ideal candidate is an experienced RT or cash power trader who thrives under volatility, collaborates \n effectively, and leads by example. This role provides an opportunity to grow into future leadership positions within Guzman Energy while influencing the culture and performance of the short-term trading team. \n \n Key Responsibilities \n Desk Leadership & Team Support \n\n • Serve as a peer-leader of the Real-Time desk, supporting traders during 24/7 operations\n, • Provide daily mentorship, trade guidance, and constructive peer feedback to enhance performance and decision quality\n, • Act as the coordinating point during periods of market volatility, ensuring clear communication and aligned trading responses\n, • Promote a high-performance culture consistent with Guzman Energy’s mission and trading principles\n\n \n Cash & Real-Time Trading Operations \n\n • Execute DA/cash, hourly, and intraday power trades across Western markets and applicable ISO/RTOs\n, • Coordinate closely with Real-Time Traders to ensure alignment between cash, intraday, and real-time positions\n, • Monitor system conditions, load deviations, and market signals to manage short-term risk and capture near-term opportunities\n, • Support accurate transmission procurement, E-tagging, and scheduling, ensuring reliability and compliance with NERC, ISO/RTO, and Risk Management policies\n\n \n Strategy, Optimization, & Market Alignment \n\n • Work with RT and cash/term traders to align short-term strategy across DA and RT horizons\n, • Identify, communicate, and execute value-enhancing opportunities within the cash and intraday windows\n, • Provide actionable market insights, pricing perspectives, and feedback to the Manager of Real-Time Trading\n, • Contribute to shaping desk processes, playbooks, and tactical trading approaches\n\n \n Compliance, Reporting, & Performance \n\n • Ensure all trades comply with applicable regulatory, market, and corporate standards\n, • Support desk reporting, dashboards, market notes, and after-action reviews\n, • Collaborate with peers on data-driven performance assessments and process improvements\n, • Uphold high standards of operational discipline, reliability, and communication\n\n \n Required Qualifications \n\n • Bachelor’s degree in business, Economics, Engineering, Finance, or a related quantitative discipline\n, • 2–5 years of experience in real-time power trading, system operations, or energy market analytics\n, • Proven ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced, dynamic trading environment\n, • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to direct a team in real-time\n, • Proficiency with trading platforms such as OATI WebTrader, webSmartOASIS, and webSmartTag, as well as Microsoft Excel\n, • Ability and willingness to work rotating 12-hour shifts (including overnights, weekends, and holidays) as part of a 24/7 operation\n\n \n Preferred Qualifications \n\n • Supervisory, peer-leadership, or team lead experience in a trading or operations environment\n, • Familiarity with ISO/RTO markets such as CAISO, ERCOT, SPP, MISO, and PJM\n, • Certifications such as NERC or PJM are a plus\n, • Technical skills (Python, R, SQL, or dashboard tools) for data-driven decision making\n, • Strong understanding of NERC reliability standards and energy scheduling protocols\n, • Demonstrated ability to make fast, informed decisions in high-pressure settings\n, • Alignment with Guzman Energy’s mission to deliver innovative, equitable, and sustainable energy solutions\n\n \n What the Guz Offers \n\n • Competitive base salary: $115,000 - $120,000 commensurate with experience and Denver, CO market rate\n, • Performance-based bonus opportunity\n, • Comprehensive health, dental, & vision insurance\n, • 401(k) with company match\n, • Flexible PTO policy\n, • Parking or RTD pass subsidy\n, • Complimentary gym membership in office building\n\n \n Location & Work Environment \n This position is based in our Denver office with an in-person work requirement.
