Chief Executive Officer Rochester, NY JK Executive Strategies is proud to partner with Habitat for Humanity in search of a Chief Executive Officer to lead its team! The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) serves as the chief executive and strategic leader of the organization, reporting directly to the Board of Directors. The CEO is responsible for advancing the mission of providing safe, decent, and affordable home ownership opportunities to individuals and families in need. This role combines visionary leadership with operational excellence, ensuring that programs, people, and resources are aligned to achieve long-term sustainability, growth, and measurable community impact. The CEO works closely with the Board, senior leadership, and community partners to develop strategic plans, oversee operations, and enhance the organization’s presence as a recognized leader in affordable housing. The ideal candidate will be a mission-driven, results-oriented leader who inspires collaboration, innovation, and accountability across a diverse team of staff, volunteers, and partners. Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Organizational Management • Lead the organization in developing and executing strategic and operational plans aligned with its mission and vision., • Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring operational, financial, and administrative excellence., • Evaluate and refine organizational structure to ensure alignment with goals and scalability., • Cultivate an internal culture that promotes inclusivity, accountability, transparency, and high performance., • Inspire and mentor staff and volunteers to achieve organizational objectives and uphold the mission., • Serve as the organization’s chief spokesperson, representing the mission with integrity and professionalism. Board Relations & Governance • Serve as a non-voting, ex-officio member of the Board of Directors., • Collaborate with the Board Chair to prepare agendas, present strategic updates, and facilitate informed decision-making., • Provide timely, transparent reports to the Board on financial, operational, and programmatic matters., • Support Board development, recruitment, and engagement to strengthen governance and leadership continuity. Financial Oversight & Resource Development • Oversee fiscal management, ensuring financial stability, accountability, and effective stewardship of resources., • Develop and monitor annual budgets; ensure compliance with regulatory and audit requirements., • Support fundraising and development strategies, cultivating relationships with donors, foundations, corporations, and government agencies., • Support pursual of grants and alternative funding opportunities to sustain and expand programs., • Oversee retail operations (e.g., ReStores) and ensure their alignment with financial and mission objectives. Community Relations, Advocacy & Partnerships • Serve as the public face of the organization, building trust and credibility with stakeholders and the broader community., • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with civic, faith-based, business, and governmental organizations., • Advocate for affordable housing at the local, state, and national levels., • Promote and participate in public speaking engagements, media relations, and community events., • Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion in all external and internal initiatives. Construction, Land Development & Program Oversight • Collaborate with construction and land development leaders to manage property portfolios and building projects., • Oversee site selection, master planning, project budgets, and compliance with codes and permitting., • Support family services, mortgage management, and homeowner education programs to ensure successful partnerships., • Ensure adherence to Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) standards and local regulatory requirements. Team Development & Culture • Build, lead, and retain a high-performing leadership team., • Foster a culture that emphasizes collaboration, professional growth, and accountability., • Encourage innovation and continuous improvement across departments., • Promote policies that create a safe, equitable, and empowering workplace. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA, MPA, or related field) preferred., • Minimum of 5–10 years of executive leadership experience, preferably within nonprofit, housing, or community development sectors., • Demonstrated success in strategic planning, financial oversight, and organizational management., • Proven ability to lead diverse teams, inspire staff, and cultivate a mission-driven culture., • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills., • Experience in construction management, real estate, affordable housing finance, or mortgage lending preferred., • Demonstrated ability to build partnerships with government, corporate, and community stakeholders., • High emotional intelligence, integrity, and commitment to servant leadership principles., • Proficiency with project management, budgeting, and standard office software tools.
