Job Description Safe Space Winter Shelter, Inc. 236 W East Ave, Suite A PMB 115 Chico, CA 95926 530-399-3187 Executive Director Salary Range: $76,000-$91,000 Appointments considered above this range will be based on skills, experience, and abilities. Safe Space Winter Shelter, Inc. (SSWS) provides year-round sheltering and human support services for the Northern Sacramento Valley community experiencing housing insecurity and homelessness. Services include case management, enhanced care management, seasonal weather-related shelter, and day habilitation programming based in Chico, CA. We are funded through CalAim, municipal contracts, related grants, and numerous direct donations. SSWS’s Board of Directors is seeking an Executive Director to lead a dedicated team of staff and volunteers working to meet the growing needs of our community. Minimum Qualifications: · Operational understanding of low barrier sheltering and strong commitment to the provision of support services for the unhoused community. · Experience with Safe Space or similar programs and comfort working with persons with mental health and/or substance use issues. · Familiarity with CalAim or other state sponsored funding protocols. · Knowledge of fundraising strategies and donor relations · Experience with grant administration · Budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, data-driven decision-making and reporting. · Strong understanding of personnel management principles and relevant labor laws. · Strategic performance management principles and coaching for excellence. · Paid and/or volunteer management-level and supervisory experience. · Effective communicator with strong written and oral communication skills and ability to serve as the public face of the organization. · Strong basic computer and internet skills (Word, Excel, Google, Signup.com, etc.). · Familiarity with social media platforms. · Possession of a valid CA Driver License, current registration and required insurance in accordance with California Vehicle Code requirements, and access to a vehicle. · Bachelor’s degree in non-profit management, social work, or a similar field. Commensurate work history will be considered in lieu of an educational degree. Duties: The Executive Director will 1. Lead SSWS in a manner that supports and implements the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors and works with the Board of Directors and diverse program teams to fulfill the organization’s mission., 2. Be responsible for day-to-day operations of SSWS, including general corporate operations, office operations, bookkeeping and financial reporting, and facilities management., 3. Work collaboratively with the Board of Directors to support all staff and volunteers and identify new programming opportunities., 4. Be the public point of contact for stakeholders, including but not limited to government entities, media, and other homeless services providers., 5. Represent SSWS on the Butte County Continuum of Care Committee, Greater Chico Housing Taskforce, and other committees., 6. Identify grant and other funding opportunities. Develop and, after approval of the Board of Directors, submit and ensure proper administration of grants., 7. Coordinate fundraising activities. Develop other resources necessary to support SSWS’s mission., 8. Ensure contract compliance with local, state, and federal funders., 9. Complete all reporting requirements including statistical data compilation, report/billing preparation as required. Regularly monitor the collective metrics/results of programs, ensure integrity of data, perform gap analysis and recommend/implement re-alignment of program workflow., 10. With the Treasurer and accountant, provide fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position., 11. Develop and submit draft budgets with the SSWS Treasurer and program teams., 12. Ensure proper processing of payroll., 13. Communicate effectively with the Board and staff to provide timely and accurate information necessary for them to function properly and to make informed decisions., 14. Hire and supervise paid staff and support contractors, including lead case manager/case managers, accountant (contract), HR manager (contract), and other related administration and outreach staff, as needed., 15. Provide staff performance goals, evaluations, coaching and disciplinary actions, as required, including potential employment termination., 16. Establish and maintain employment and administrative policies and procedures., 17. Ensure commitment to, and compliance with, all applicable laws and regulations across the organization., 18. Maintain official records and documents and ensure compliance with appropriate laws related to records and privacy., 19. Other duties assigned by the Board of Directors.
